Anyone ever used Sta-bil to clean a carb? My 60 JD is used for pulling a sprayer over a couple hundred acres a year and little else, so it sets in the barn over the winter. Last fall the tank was near empty and I added the usual Sta-bil treatment. Recently I got it out to service it before spring work starts and it ran better than it had in years, so I added an even stronger gallon of sta-bil treated gas and let it set in the carb a day or two. It idles better than it has in years, it no longer stumbles between idle and high speed. It now runs as it should.

I thought sta-bil only helped prevent breakdown of gasoline, does it also clean the crud out of carb jets? Joe

I used it in my ATV, one winter. In the spring, the ATV was stalling, like it was out of gas. I drained the tank to check the strainer inside. It was plugged with an orange colored crud. I never used it again and never had that problem again. Can't say for sure it came from the sta-bil or not.

I put Sta-bil in everything from my JD MT & LA to my chainsaw fuel. Not sure if it cleans but it helps with the crappy gas now a days.

I have used Sta-bil with no problems. Another product I use when I can't find Sta-bil is Sea foam it does the same thing.

Yes, on a briggs engine on a water pump. Picked it up used and would only run good with partial choke. Used it that way a few times a year. Last fall I put some sta-bil treated gas in it. This spring when I started it and left it on partial choke it wouldn't run right. I reached down to turn it off and pushed the wrong lever, it didn't stop and ran just fine. I had turned the choke off instead of the switch. I have tried it 3 or 4 times just to check since and it runs great. The only thing different was the sta-bil over the winter.

I have used it for years in everything. From chain saws, rototillers, power washer, generators, tractors, motorcycles, and leaf blower. I don't seem to have problems with carbs, so I'm thinking it works good.

Stabil seems to work OK as a cleaner but I don';t think that's what it was actually designed to do. On the other hand Seafoam works great to clean one out. I've used is alot here recently to get customers engines running right after they had set for awhile, unused, due to the economy. Granted there's no guarantee it's going to work every time but it's not that expensive to give it a try before going through the expense of rebuilding the carb.

Once I didn't use anything in my JD D over the winter. After cleaning the carb 3X, the sediment bowl 5X, and having the tank cleaned and plastic lined, I started using Sta-Bil. Never had another problem. Good enough for me!

Sta-Bil does have a definate "Shelve life"
Read the fine print on the label!
After a year or so, I dump any left in the bottle
in my truck tank and buy new!
