what ooil brand do you use

I use John Deere oil in everything I own. I buy it in bulk and use it in the tractors, combine, semi and even down to the lawn mower and pressure washer. Good stuff. Mike

I use Castrol in everything that has an oil pump. Years ago mechanic freind of mine said every engine they've torn down that had Catrol used as recommended was clean as could be on the inside. Since 1989 I have not has a lubrication related failure in any engine I own. With over 20 years of success why change now?

I normally use Shell Rotell T Triple Portection in the diesel engines and lately have been using Walmart hydraulic fluid, before that co-op brand stuff and some Valvoline before that. It leaks through the tractors enough I'm buying the chepest I can find, so long as it meets the proper specs.

AMSOIL for synthetics (most everything) Castrol if conventional oil.

some valveoline hyd and gear depending on the equipment (age/use)

Havoline in the gassers and Case/IH in the diesels. Used Texaco Ursa in the diesels for many, many years until it got hard for us to get in our area.

Using the proper spec oil is more important than brand. The problem starts when somebody uses a post 2007 diesel oil in an engine that does not use roller lifters. Or outboard two stroke oil in a chainsaw.

How could you come up with some silly idea like that? Do you know the different versions of Rotella and their applications. Hint there is T1, T3, Triple T, T5 and T6.

Yes I understand all of that. Its just the way you worded your sentence, made it seem like shell was an inferior product.

Shell is probably markets the best line of mineral oil lubricants in the market.
They don't seem to have a pre 2007 diesel synthetic however?

Shell Rotella T in everything because it is good and because I get it for $10.00 for five gallons.

Mostly Super Tech from WalMart.
It meets specs and is the exact same formula as several other brands you would be familiar with. Pay a lot less for it too.

I was going to buy some Rotella, in 2-1/2 gal.
jugs, until I read the fine print. It said:
packaged for Shell by Pennzoil. When I was
rebuilding car engines, you could always tell a
Pennzoil engine, because, on teardown they were
full of a grey, tacky, sticky, Waxey, SLUDGE!

Most oil blending companies package for others. Rotella likey has a proprietary formula and that is what goes in their bottles. Company I work for is a private label oil blender who makes Hytran for CIH. It is a proprietary formula made for no one else.

Low ash oil for particulate emissions and two
stroke Detroit diesels has fewer pressure point
additives such as zinc.
There is high pressure and shearing which occur
typically between a cam lobe and flat tappet cam
follower with a low rpm/light valve spring
pressure engine.
Now try a high rpm/high valve spring pressure
flat tappet cammed engine without extra
wear/pressure additives. Anybody ever wonder why
Detroit diesel two strokes and Deere on the two
cylinder injection pumps used roller cam
followers?
These high pressure additives lube oils when
burned in leaky and worn engines. The residue is a
hard metallic ash which fouls ports, sticks rings,
sleeve ports and scores cylinder walls etc.
