New (to me) scam

Friday I went to the bank to get some money to give out to various grads this weekend. On the way home I stopped for a red light and there was a young lady (18-25) stopped in the lane next to me. She motioned for me to lower the window so I did. She said that she had ran out of gas and would I push her car to Walmart (about 1/2 mile away). I said that I would pull her car there. She was in a Grand Am. I used to drive one like it and the gas guage didn't work so I kind of had flashback. There are two gas stations on the corner where she was so I asked her why not pull into one of those? She said that she had to return some merchandise to get the money to buy gas. I said well I'll pull you into the closest one and buy enough gas for you to go on. I pulled her in and put $10 of gas in for her (3 gal). Then she started it right up and drove off. It wasn't out of gas I don't think as mine took awhile to start after running out. So I'm thinking I got scammed by this young girl. What do ya'll think?

Yup, it is like someone asking for money to buy food. If they really need it, buy the food and give it to them, not the money.

Actually if she cycled the key for 3-5 seconds (on off) a couple of times being injected with and electric fuel pump it should have started right up. If she was broke enough that she was returning stuff to wally world to get money for gas she has most likely run out of gas many times and knows how to start it up after running out. I always point out to people that I help out when they run out of gas that if they keep the top half full the bottom half never runs empty.......

We just came home from a short vacation that included stops in New Orleans and Memphis. We were constantly approached by people begging for money. We probably gave away twenty or thirty bucks in small amounts.
I think if someone goes to the lengths of begging with a set up scheme they likely really need the help.
Besides, we have been so blessed that we look for ways to give back.
"In as much as you have done this to the least of these my brethren ........... I"m just sayin"

She wanted to go to Walmart so she could scam a whole lot more people. There was guy doing it at Canadian Tire. Told me he needed money for the bus and was asking everyone returning to their vehicles. I'm guessing he figured a lot of people paid cash and would have change handy. He probably told different stories to everyone.

Scam. We had a family that pulled that down here. Said they were out of gas in Fairfield 30 miles up the road. Until cops told them to move on. Car started right up.
Then they pulled the same thing in Buffalo. 15 miles up. Cops again told them to move on.
Then in my town. Working there way to Houston I guess

It's one thing to really be down and out and need a helping hand. It's another thing to pull an intentional scam. Since you quoted it, here's some more:
For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
I'm just sayin.

makes you think, should have pulled her to wally-world, just inside the parking lot entrance and see if she was telling the truth, she would have walked to store with packages...... a person walking thru alley, while i was making deliveries, ask for money for to eat, [smelled booze on him] told him two blocks away, i stop at a burger joint, i would buy him one, end of alley and to the left 200ft was the liquor store,,i knew better

a couple years ago had a guy approach me and my wife as we left a restaurant. Claimed he was out of gas and his children were in the apartment of some guy he just met. I asked him which car was his. He pointed at my car. I walked away..

A “heads up” for those men who may be regular customers at Lowe’s, Home Depot, Menards, and even Wal-Mart. This one caught me totally by surprise.

Over the last month I became a victim of a clever scam while out shopping. Simply going out to get supplies has turned out to be quite traumatic. Don’t be naive enough to think it couldn’t happen to you or your friends.

Here’s how the scam works:

Two attractive, college-aged women will come over to your car or truck as you are packing your purchases into your vehicle. They both start wiping your windshield with a rag and Windex, clad in skimpy T-shirts. When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say “No,” but instead ask for a ride to McDonald’s. You agree and they climb into the vehicle. On the way, they start crawling all over you, while one of them steals your wallet.

I had my wallet stolen May 19th, the 21st, twice on the 24th, and yesterday, the 26th. It's very likely gonna happen again this upcoming Memorial Day.

So tell your friends to be careful. What a horrible way to take advantage of older men.

Please, send this on to all the older men you know and warn them to be on the lookout for this scam. (The best times are just before lunch and around 4:30 in the afternoon).

Had a guy at a gas station approach me claiming to be out of gas and having no money asking if I could help him out. I had a couple of bucks in my front pocket and when I raised my oversize Tshirt to reach in my pocket my handgun was uncovered and he took off like a rocket on foot. Texas concealed handgun permit, and I honestly didn't think much of it until he ran. Oh well, saved me a couple of bucks!
