Don't like when the police follow me.

I was comming home from a discing job. I was driving my 54 Chevy flat bed with my crawler, and the disc hanging over the back on 4x16x20 ft planks I use for loading. I was right at 9 ft overhang which is the max.I looked in the mirror and saw a black and white behind me. I was thinking, hope it was a sheriff. Wrong it was the dreaded California CHP. Atleast it wasen't a black, and white pickup. Those guys go through everything. On top, and under. I was waiting for the lights. He just keep following me. After a few miles he was gone didn't see him turn off. I guess everything looked ok.Every thing is top notch on my truck. It just makes me nervous. Stan

I"ve hauled several loads some distance - from my late father-in-law"s place, some 70 miles. Last was a gravity box wagon. Make sure it all has tail/brake/turn lights. Also appropriate SMV. I don"t want to talk to the cops either when hauling such a load. Especially since I"m so far from home. I usually try to keep off the main roads, but sometimes, no choice if I want to make any time. But then, I"m running slow, so load doesn"t start fishtailing, etc. A slow moving vehicle is sure to catch the cop"s attention.

Cousin had a 78 Chevy straight grain truck 366 with glass pipes. Obviously the noise abatement on this truck was modified. Came around the corner one day on way to elevator full of corn weigh master had a truck pulled over about 1/4 mile ahead. I neutralled up to coast just has they left. Rammed her in third and went on.

Don't blame 'ya at all Chief, I too get a bit nervous when I'm being followed for a while. When I moved I had a yard full of old cars to move. Trying to do it as effeciently and cheap as possible, I welded a receiver hitch on the back of my 16 foot trailer and hooked the car dolley up to it. The first trip (500+ miles one way) I was sweating the whole way. Several Texas DPS troopers looked and went on, so I figured I must have been OK. I never did ask anyone, all I did was look up the maximum lenght allowed and I was shy of that number by a little bit. I did hook up safety chains and an extra set of lights on the rear car each trip. I made a total of 7 trips like this and not one time was I stopped. Lucky maybe? Probably. The pics below are from the last trip.

(quoted from post at 19:48:16 06/02/12) When I figure how to post pictures I have a lot to share. stan
Do you use modern or classic view?? Can't speak for classic, but modern view is pretty simple.. just follow the yellow brick road...
Simplest and least time consuming is, set up a free image hosting acount (photobucket, imageshack, etc) or facebook, upload all your picks, then just post links to what you wanna share.......

I hate when the cops follow me to . Most of the time my stuff isn't up to snuff either . What kind of crawler do you have ?

Let's say your wife and kids was heading to/from the park in the minivan and ended up behind some gitterdun quick and cheap clown and one of his tractors, cars, machine, or ??? comes loose and wipes em all out.... You "I hate the cops" folks would sure be singin a different tune...

Do it right or don't do it... Or shoulder the responsibility if you do different... Not bashing... I do some dumb stuff and push the limits way too often........

If I see a cop behind me I will turn off, if he is still behind me I will park it unless I need to be somewhere right away. A loaded truck might raise some suspicion though.

Hahaha, I have an O'4 Dodge with the Hemi we cut the exhaust right behind the cats and ran virgin 2in pipe on back. I always wondered if I'd get stopped for it but the truck has over 100,000 on it lots of heavy loads on the gooseneck.

I always tell my kids, do not worry about the cops if you are not doing anything wrong, works every time.

Guilty conscience, eh? I've seen people do really stupid things when I got behind them back when I was still working. Fer cryin' out loud guys, if you're gonna get pulled, you're gonna get pulled. I don't care who you are, calm down and just drive.

I hate to say it, but its true, and I always used to think in more of a humorous way, that YOU guys LOL, kinda have an advantage as people get so darned nervous and freaked out when a patrol car is behind them, they do as you said. I was always of the opinion that there had to be those guys in uniform that did that purposely, kinda watching the people squirm from the pressure to see if they can shake something loose or in the case when its in your favor, that unbeknownst criminal in front of you caves under the pressure and you now can proceed to pull the car over.

Personally, I keep my registration, insurance card and drivers license within grasp in every vehicle I drive, so there is no fumbling to make the guy nervous about weapons or unforseen hazards. After awhile, having a patrol car behind you, once you have been pulled over as many times as I have, (used to just seem to attract em years back) you get used to it, so just drive. Only time I hate to have a patrol car behind me is at night in the rain, you can't see the lines so well, and you think you might get pulled over for DWI, of course a simple test will prove that wrong.

My S.I L. came up yesterday and asked why my license plate on the little Jimmy was expired and why was SON driving it. I said what??????. plate is legit. Well it wasn't. Sent for the plates back in April 4th, and we both thought it was put on.Here I'm packing a gun when in the vehicle. Sure would have made the traffic stop very interesting. Victor called the D.M.V. and they said they did in fact have the check and to expect the plate tag next week, and they would notify state patrol we are LEGAL. D.M.V. apologized for the delay. (now thats news). First time we have had to remind the D.M.V. about such things. LOU.

You can tow multiple trailers in TX. I think it is 2 and yes there is a max length restriction. Been a long time since I got my CDL but as I recall the testiing had to do with the 4 wheel trailers that they pull with a single axle tug for UPS and other similar drop trailer here, and there, kind of transports.

You must have been legal and looked to be safe or you surely would have been pulled over. Only thing I see that would have made it "more in compliance" if any doubt was to paint "IN TOW" on the back glass of the second car.

I have been looked over several times by DPS troopers and local sheriffs and city police. You can watch them look you over, especially on a 4 lane road, and see that they check your license, hitch hookup, tow chains and on rigs like here, if your tow vehicle has enough weight and brake capacity to stop you in a reasonable distance........oh yes, and whether or not they think your speed is excessive for the conditions.

Couldn't be farther from reality. There are hundreds of thousands of cases of police abusing their power and hassling/arresting/abusing/physically assaulting innocent law abiding citizens who were doing nothing illegal or wrong.

JOB: If you do that, it might arouse their suspicions; they might think you were trying to avoid them. Pull over somewhere where you can go into a business or some other reasonable explanation.
