Help with John Deere 3020

Trying to sell 3020 for retired gentleman. Gas, no P/S, needs hyd pump, new rear tires, needs voltage reg., muffler and painted Oliver green. How much is it worth? Thanks, Fritz

What do you mean by "no PS"?? All 3020's have power steering. Need hyd pump which pump trans or main pump?? Who diagnosed that it needs a pump as it could be just an internal leak causing hyd problems. Where is tractor located??

The drive coupler from the engine to the pump could be stripped, causing hyd. pump not to work.

With the problems you outline and the fact that it is a gas would make the value be scrap to just a little more. Good running gas JD 3020 will not bring much more than $4500. One in the shape you are talking about should be in the $1200-1500 range. The repairs will cost way more than the tractor will ever be worth.

Plus the 10 and 20 series JD gas motors are a PIA to keep running correctly on the new gas. I had one on the feeder wagon for a few years though it would be great not to have the cold weather starting issues a diesel has. Well the diesel I had before would start better then the gas one. So I only used it a year and sold it. I was always having to play with the ignition or carb to get it to run right.

Rowcrop wide or narrow front? Standard chassis, there was a few made iirc. Early or late side console? Number of hours?
If it was the similar 2520 there would be people asking the owner if they could purchase it.

I seem to have left out some important facts. Here they are. Wide front, 3000+ hours (it needs a tach cable too), no POWER SHIFT, early or late console, I can't tell. Hydraulics on your left, shifter on your right. Hydraulic pump still works, just makes an annoying clattering sound. I thought it would have grenaded years ago. I tried to get him to change it a couple times, but "It still picks the haybine up". He's right, picks it up fast, too. I believe I'm certified red enough to be an official John Deere Criticizer, but I can't honestly say this tractor is junk. It steers easy, JD remote tips push in easier than Pioneer tips, always starts good and runs well, today's gas notwithstanding, doesn't seem to burn any more gas than any other engine of this C.I.D., and has plenty of hydraulic power even with that nasty old pump. Frankly, I was delighted to learn it was only worth 1500.00, but I don't need any more frigging tractors much less start collecting green ones. Thanks for all the input, I'll pass along the information.

location, N.E.Ohio. The hydraulic pump in the front
makes all the racket. I didn't know it even had a
trans pump. I had assumed the brakes worked off the
hyd. system.

As much as I dislike a 3020 gas it is still worth more than 1500 even with no tires around here.

With the additional info It is worth more than the low $1500 I put it at junk price. The wide front if it is a JD one and not broke will bring $1000. It sounds like the tractor is just a common old JD 3020 gas. It would be more in the $2750-3500 range. It may sell for more in Ohio but the gas JD tractors around here in North east Iowa don't sell very well.

Repairing hyd pump racket could be as simple as replacing the hyd pump drive bushings &/or coupler plates.
