Hilarious Craigslist Ad

Son lives 500 miles away and we are both Craigslist junkies. Every now and then we spot a funny, or strange ad that we share with each other. He sent me this one yesterday and I have to admit this one tops them all. I think almost all of us can relate in one way or another to this guys predicament.

I don't see what is funny about this. The guy is trying to resale a stolen boat. The first seller stole it from the charity. Then putting the wrong registration numbers on the stolen boat is illegal too. The current seller is a real fool. If any law enforcement officer reads this they should go check it all out. It seems to me the current seller is going to be in trouble for receiving stolen property and the original seller is a thief.

I accidentally bought a item that was stolen a few years ago. I just called the sheriff and he came out and took my statement. I was in the clear legal wise but did loose what I had given for the item. The original owner did give me a small reward for helping them find the item. I am now a lot nosier about what I buy.

Sounds to me like this guy might have stolen the boat himself. His story about the other buyer, charity, etc. doesn't work for me, especially with the fresh paint job and no registration numbers.

But more likely the whole thing is a scam because a victim certainly can't go to the police after they lose their money.

I've bought two boats without titles. All you really need is a signed Bill of Sale from the seller (and make sure you have good ID from them). Then ask the state to issue a new title. No big deal. If the boat does turn out to be stolen you have to give it up but shouldn't get in any more trouble.

Maybe its a boat thing.

I responded to a Craigslist ad for a small aluminum boat. While I was looking at it, two Deputy Sheriffs come walking across the lawn, to talk to the seller. Turns out the owner saw the ad, too, and sent the cops.

I hung around, just for fun- seller (young guy) says he helped someone move, and they gave him the boat. Story didn't seem to jibe with what cop was hearing on the phone. I finally asked if I should hang around or leave, as I was interested in buying- Cop just smiled and said he didn't see much chance of that.

Now that was funny...and fishy. I think JDSeller and others got it right about possibly being stolen.

A few years back I was on an auto theft task force and we used craigs list quite often to recover stolen cars, boats, motorcycles and engines.
