some gremlin put a small hole in the radiator of one of my old chevy trucks, there is no radiator shop anywhere near here, [ my thought is plastic radiators and old age of the owner shut them down], so remind me to repair a metal radiator, [early 80's] do i need to solder the tube or braze it?

solder is the way to go. make sure surfaces are free of paint and shined up with piece of emery. then clean with muratic acid. on sizeable holes i have used small piece of copper soldered over with good results.

Like others have said, use solder. I use solid 50/50 solder, and solder acid. It needs to be squeeky clean. Don't over heat the brass radiator. Did you try a radiator sealer? Stan

thanks guys, it looks like its leaking in one of the tubes so im going to have to carefully cut out the fins and try to solder it, a new one is over 400 bucks, which i cant spend at the moment, so im going to have to fix this thing myself, i'll let you know how this goes lol

I have seen multiple tubes radiators where the split was in the tube several inches away from the tanks, and someone had taken pliers and crimped the tube on both ends near the tanks, and then used stop leak. I have seen several of these repairs that lasted for years.
