Nuffield tractor

Looked at a Nuffield 4/65 tractor today.

It is 60 horse according to the owner, Diesel, live pto, locking rear and a good condition loader. Started right up no smoke or knocks, no brakes according to the owner, tires 25%.

He wants $3,000 but might take less I think.

I am lookin' for a work tractor. Are parts available?

Lookin' for opinions and thanks in advance,

Brad

I have one here in Scotland, they are getting harder to find these days even over where they were made. About 65 hp as you say and good wheel grip to. Parts are still readily available in the UK including complete engine kits. Not a valuable tractor although a few guys are now starting to collect them. They didnt have a great reputation here due to engine problems, water in the oil or vice versa due to liner head gasket issues.

Used to be a dealer locally for them, and he sold several because they were less money than the comparable name brands. Not a very good tractor- Remember one story of a guy hitting a bump and the entire steering pedestal came off in his hand- made for a few exciting moments.

You can get a better tractor for your 3 large.

IF you're in North America and not having a tractor that runs will effect your quality of life or finances this is what I would call a "West Texas deal" (EL-PASO)

Neighbor had a 70 horse Leyland (what Nuffield became) for sale about 30 years ago for like 2 or 3 thousand dollars, It took him a while to unload---I mean sell it.

Not that great of a tractor, never had much sales in the US, nonexistent sales & service organization and the parent company is no longer around, what does that tell you?

For 3 grand you could get a Late 50's Farmall, Oliver, Allis Chalmers or Massey Ferguson and have more tractor and better parts availability

Back in the late 50's My fil bought a 465 from a local MF dealer. It was a demonstrator model. Had it for years with no big problems. I thought it was kind of a nice tractor. At the time it was his big tractor. You have to watch the Pto, don't disengage it for more than 10 minutes without taking it out of gear. When he retired in the late 80's it was still working though the steering was a little sloppy and it was no longer the big tractor on the farm. That said, if it has a $1000 loader on it's a $2000 tractor that you can replace the clutch without splitting the tractor if need be. There used to be a place in Lowville that had parts and when I lived in Wi there was a place in Dorchester don't know if either are still there. Check the parts site for interchangeability
Nuffield parts from the UK

My Uncles Leylamd 270 , a newer version of the Nufield , brought $1500 in his auction and it was in nice shape, real good tin and tires.
