Now I see'd it all....

Dave,

Drop the saw, how about fall on my butt.

I make marks measuring by boot steps. My size 11 boots are almost 1 ft exactly. So picture me walking down a log boot tip to boot tip measuring and bending over to mark. After falling on my butt more then once I had to stop using that method.

btw, My Grand mother came from Germany. That is where you are stationed?
She hailed from a farming village/town called Brandstadt, Austria, was part of Germany in 1919 when she left)

(quoted from post at 08:11:01 08/12/12) turn the saw sideways and use it as a guage = free.

Look MISTER... You gotta come on line wif modern technology if ya wanna get anywhere past your driveway

I'll be the first and prolly the only one to fess up... that thought never crossed my mind. 16" bar and need 16" wood.... DUH

I thought I was pretty technologically advanced now that I've got a saw with one of those new-fangled chain brake inventions.

My 20 inch saw nicely has a divit on it's case about 5 inches from the bar, so it's real easy to use that to make my 26 inch long firewood. Thought everyone did this.

16 inch firewood? Man, you guys must like cutting wood for a hobby, to use such small bits. Here in MN we need a lot of wood to make real heat, not all kindling! :)

18 is max on the living room stove can handle close to 2ft in the dining room but 1 length is easier..... keep kicking around a wood boiler instead of the oil one we have but don't want to be tied down or the wife to HAVE to tend it if I have to travel....

After 25 seasons of cutting firewood I just eyeball the length,i'm usually within 2" of 20"lengths,..Stove takes up to 24"
Who cares if it's couple " short. You gonna burn it anyway.
Beats walking that log twice

We cut all of our wood 4', we have a pole that's 4' long (well a few of them) and then we mark the pole in 16" lengths if we run into a big log that's just to big to handle at 4'.

We're always looking for those darn poles, either we drop a tree on them, forget where we set them down or what ever.

I think it's a cool gadget, that being said I wonder how easy it is to see when your out in the sun.
