Found a hay thief last night

While doing one of my varmint walk around I found a deer standing where I feed the horses hay so I now know I have a hay thief. When I caught it in the flash light it just stood there eating the hay. Hope I do not run out of hay since I now know I am feeding more then the 2 horse and one pony I have. LOL Guess I need to set out another bale some time today

Been seeing a very large number of deer this year. Guess since it is so dry they are staying in the valley that I live in and getting the water I keep running into my pond and also getting what little is still green in the pasture. I see at least 3 or more each and every day and they are so close I can shoot them from the front porch. Or they are with in 50 yards of 3 or more of my deer stands. Hope they keep it up because they will fit nicely in the freezer

OLD,
I would put up a sign saying that any animal caught eating my horse hay will be SHOT!
George

they come right up to the stall/feeders and don't pay any attention to the horses anymore... They really like the mineral blocks.... I've seen rabbits on their hind legs drinking out of the water trailer drinkers.......

Do you think the deer would have a better flavor if you had a salt block for them?
George

Killed a big buck while stationed in Missouri that lived in an area of food plots and corn/grain fields..... Was as good or better than beef to my taste.... The salt licks in the area were nylon stockings filled with sale and hung over a flat rock.....

We have a place out by one of the deer stands that we put salt in. Deer at least as I have seen pretty much do not lick a salt block but will dig and eat the ground around where you put salt out. We started this salt place about a year ago and it is now 6 inches of so deep and about 3 foot around where they dig up the soil

Talk to the game warden about getting permits to thin the deer. Here in PA you get one permit for every ten acres.

I know a guy who called Dept of Consevation asking for permission to shoot some deer due to the bucks killing his young apple trees by raking their antlers on the trunk. Offical response was, "we have to come out and look at the damage and we will determine if it is appropriate. Also the meat will have to be donated to the food pantry and you have to pay for the processing". He told him he'd never call them again.

Last spring a neighbor counted twenty three in the alfalfa field behind his house. He was getting pretty concerned as he depends on hay for a pretty good portion of his income, but they moved on after a couple of days.

First year I asked for a deer destroy permit they gave me a permit to kill 20. No rules, spotlight them at night, kill them out of season, just kill em. Had to leave them lay though and call the agent to tell him when and how many I had killed. I killed 8 that year.

Next year they gave me a permit to kill 10. I dont remember how many of those I got. 3 or 4 I think.

Very nice, no hassel.

I was putting out 50/50 scratch for some local turkeys but the deer seem to like it more than the birds. Must have some salt in it.
By the way the Lewis, Clark and the corps of discovery were very fond of dog meat.
