Any advise on what age to get gilts bred? -Morgan

7 months or more. Depends on size as well. 270 lbs plus.

Mine were usually ready by 7 months.

I usually wanted mine to be a year old when they pigged. So that would be about 8 months old.

Old saying to remember a hogs gestation time.
3 months+ 3 weeks+ 3 days = 115 days

Used to run 35 brood sows.Always wanted to breed gilts after the 4th heat cycle.This would put them up around 350 lbs.For every cycle they miss without being bred they gain an egg to be fertilized.Must be true my pigs born alive was a 14 average.Things are a little different now with hte price of feed stuff.Breed quicker your return is faster.
