Tractor tube repair

Son had a tractor tire go flat. Took it to town and the tire shop said they could not patch a tube that had had antifreeze mix in it. Made him buy a new tube. Anyone heard this before? It was a pinhole sized leak. He was mad.

I would think that he could patch it himself with a tube patch kit. However, the spot must be clean while the patch sets up, so it might be tough to get a good repair with the stuff coming out of the hole.
Make sure that he checks the inside of the tire for thorns/nails. I had a front tire on and off with a slow leak about 6 times, and patched 6 pinholes, before I found the thorn.

Rear tire?
Only way around that is to equip yourself to do tire work.
This is the throw away age don't you know?
It's probably just as well they do that, because they aren't going to take the time to clean it well enough. Then they also don't want the liability of having a do-over.
I have pretty much gotten them gone/replaced, whatever - but in the bad old days of CaCl rusted rims, I often requested a partial service call- you get it off with your power equipment, then I'll go to work cleaning, repairing, painting as necessary.

I have heard the same thing, the trouble is I was patching tractor tires while I was in grade school. Buy glue, tire patches and cleaner from the same place and do it yourself. The biggest and oldest tire shop in town wouldn t put a boot in my rear tire. They said it would never hold air, it has been up for a year now, biggest boot I could find, but it is holding.

Checked for thorns and found none. Front tractor tire on a 4 wheel drive 90 horse Kubota. Son said he will buy some spoons and do it himself from now on.
They charged him $85 to put a new tube in and wanted to charge him for the antifreeze they put in. He said no way he was paying any more than the $85. We will never use that tire place again.
I usually do my own in my shop, but know with my shoulders, those days are coming to an end.

Yep I know about that one. Anti-freeze is a slick sort of stuff and yep hard to get a patch to stick to a tube that has been filled with it. That is another reason I say Wiper fluid it does not cause the same problem. Yes a patch can be made to stick but it takes a lot more work to do so or a hot patch set up
