Took a few bangs on the head thru life... Couple real hard ones and always joke about being hard headed... Seems to be taking an effect now and then...
Most recent (5 minutes ago).... :

In the spring (or longer), Big Fred down in the basement was bragging on his Fiskars shovel. Decided I hadda have one and ordered it (German company but that shovel not sold here)... Got it, used it a couple times and put it in the corner where it should be..... Now, the home (including house and all buildings) place is about 60x200ft.... Needed the shovel and looked all over for it several times since June.... Looked at the outside town stalls and no shovel.... Finally figured I left it back there and someone walked off with it...... FF and I got on Amazon a few days ago and ordered another one which is on it's way...... Few minutes ago, I went in a room that I haven't been in since early May to measure it (gonna make it a feed/tack room and winter place for SWMBO's plants)... Opened the door and there stood my shovel..... No reason in the world for it to be there that I can think of (remember). But I must have been carrying it when I was in there once.......

I worry about myself sometimes
But, I'll have 2 of the best shovels in the world............

Dave2,

I think it is probably normal. Scary... but normal. My husband and I find that we are starting to have "senior moments" too. Though not yet putting the cereal in the fridge and the milk into the cupboard yet... whew!

My husband is often "looking" for tools - never used to be like that and he is actually a highly neat/organized person.

The other day our pop holder/dispenser in the refrigerator was empty. I told our 13 year old that she could "fill the pop machine"; she got a pretty good laugh out of that. I just laughed along with her, then told her to be kind and not tell me when I start putting my hairbrush in the fridge and the eggs in the bathroom...just put them where they belong and let me believe my world is good.

Many years ago Mom and Dad and I got all dressed up to go eat, and I said I'd drive. Their car. I was ready first, waiting and waiting. Getting all ready finally someone said "OK, let's go, where's the keys??" Well, dunno. Not in the key-holder on the counter. Not anyplace. Looked and looked and looked, every room, finally I realized I had them in my left hand.

Not only forget, but looking for it and look at it and your brain don't recognize it. The next day its right where you looked yesterday.

Nooooooooooo Sh!t

It starts at 45 or whenever kids show up. I used to be able to leave tools and parts on the bench and not worry. Now I find some things walk off around the farm and show up where my nephews and niece have been playing...

Sometime in the next few years I should be able to hide my own Easter Eggs. At least that is what it feels like somedays.

Look on the bright side, now you have his and her matching shovels.

Nancy and I work as a team.

She remembers whatever I <s>regret</s> forget.

I remember whatever she forgets.

Memory loss is not all bad; I now only have to maintain a one book library. I can just keep re-reading the same book over and over and be surprised at the ending every time.

We had a neighbor who had tons of "stuff" stored everywhere around the farm. Whenever he couldn't find something fast, he'd drive to town and buy a new one, as "it was cheaper and quicker than spending a couple days looking for it".

It took him several years to find his corn planter plates; he borrowed Dad's whenever he needed to plant.

lol, but James is right.

It seems I am able to remember what he doesn't and he remembers what I forget.

We do have to be careful these days to put things back where they belong or we waste time trying to find them. Life is still good.

That's why I buy two of everything I own.

Doubles my chances of actually finding something when I need it.

The microwave sets on a kitchen counter right above a drawer underneath. I use the microwave frequently. Everytime the bell goes off when the food is done, I walk over to get it and open the drawer instead of the door. Then I wonder what I was after.

If it's any consolation, a goodly number of us have been quite concerned about you and your mental state for some time now. Glad you've begun to see things as they are. Next step, seek professional help.

About 2 weeks ago I was wearing sunglasses here at home, took them off "momentarily". After about a week of not finding them I bought another pair. Still haven't found the lost ones and I KNOW they're around here someplace.

I wish some things had electronic bells on them so I could locate by
sound by pressing a remote control.

I wouldn#t hear the bells over the tinnitus

Our previous wireless phone system was real handy- press a button on the charging station and the phone would beep so you could find it. Present one doesn't have that feature, just when we need it most.

I feel a lot better after reading all the responses- gotta show this thread to my wife so she'll stop making fun of me.

(quoted from post at 15:40:07 09/05/12) The memory is the first thing to go.

2 Scoops yer wrong.....memory is the 2nd thing to go......the 1`st thing is.....er I forgot!

Personally I find my memory goes out when the kids get my blood pressure too high.
If I calm down, IGNORE their crap, and do Lamaze breathing, I can get my pressure back down. When I am calm I can think again. Find what I am looking for or remember what I was doing before they ------ me off.

gtractorfan,

Did the same thing this summer with a pair of clip-on sunglasses. Finally gave in an bought another pair. Found them about 3 weeks later in the pocket of a jean jacket I seldom wear. :)
