Downloaded an update to flashplayer, Google toolbar was also attached together with Chrome so I finished up with the lot.Which ?? me off no end.
Google chrome has sent my XP into a fit on a past occasion and this time it was no different, so I removed it.
Here's the problem.. it has left remnants in the computer.
When I clean the Registry under file types it comes up as ..
Chrome html....Hkey_classes_root html[default] " " " shtml "
" " " xht "
" " " xhtml "

and unsafe.

How can I remove these. The cleaner doesn't have any effect............TIA

I think if you do a system restore it will erase everything.
Set the restore date to before you installed the update.
If you reinstall the flashplayer update watch for a screen that allows you to choose normal installation or advanced install.
Advanced install will allow you to uncheck all the extra junk they want to put on your computer.

What Ultradog said,

Before the update, it 'should have' created a new restore point. Go in there and run 'er back.

be very careful, i just had what i thought was a update to adobe flash player, i dowloaded, as i do have adobe on here , what it really was ,was a camouflaged porn site thing it tried to take the computer over and download so much that it froze up, fortunately it met its match, my wife works with these things for a living at her job, and she was able to fix it, good thing as she had screens up on here i have never seen, all kinds of weird little things on them, i guess its this things guts, or something

Adobe is beginning to bug me. After reading here i went to one of my garden forums and it said flash player had crashed. It seems every week a new one. Why a new one every week or so. Leave well enough alone. And why does most software want to add some thing extra, like tool bars?

Why does the programs leave remnants behind do gum up the works? Same reason the telemarketer doesn't listen when you say no and ask them not to call again MONEY. If they leave tool bars or links behind and you use them they get a few pennys from the sites you go to. The whole idea is they want to steer you to their product. The way telephones and the internet works allows people to approach you without you knowing who they are. Who do you think that ability appeals to? Unfortunately neither the donkeys or the elephants will do anything about the phone scammers. This is unfortunate if either candidate could prove they've arrested Rachael at card members services and the ahoy answer some questions for free cruise tickets guy I think I could vote for them.

Pay attention when you install the updates. Nearly always, one of the screens that come up will have a checkbox that you have to clear if you DON'T want the add on tool bars. I see that constantly on the java updates. If you get them installed, but don't want them, first go to add and remove programs in the control panel, and you can usually get them right back off. If not there, then you may have to go further. I've never seen a program yet that didn't leave some registry entries after the program was un-installed. Most of them can be safely deleted if you know what you're doing. With the program removed, though, they're likely just dead entries that don't work anymore.
Also look at services under the administrative tools. You will likely find Google update service that you prob don't need unless you run google earth or others. Even if you disable the service you may still be able to update your programs manually when needed.
