O/T CBers...........

With as much time as I spend on the road, a lot on the Interstate, I keep a CB radio in my car. There's not the chatter there used to be, but it's handy for checking road conditions, or if everyone slows down it's nice to be able to pick up a mike and see what's going on.

Lately, though, if I call for a radio check, nobody answers. Receiver works fine. Could it be my transmitter acting up?

I checked my antenna with a SWR meter, and it balances at 0. Instructions with the meter say anything under 2.0 is fine, but it doesn't say anything about balancing at 0.

I tried a different CB unit with same results. I wonder if I have a problem, or if I just happen to call for a radio check at a time when no one feels like answering.

It's not like the old days when you called for a radio check and a dozen guys said, "I've got mine".

Not much talking on the CB anymore. Many times when someone asks for Chicken House info or a Bear Report, the signal doesn't cross the median.

I still have both of mine from my trucking days. i prolly should put one in my 4x4 for coyote hunting!!!! with fuel so high; i can't get excited about that. racing season is slowing down but won't finish up until nov.
till we see u again; have a good one!

Always seemed that us professional drivers could tell when a 4 wheeler was on the CB. Very seldom did any one answer the rookie. Probably not right but in 3 million miles that's the way it was!

I still have 2 or 3 of them laying around but have not had one in a car or truck since I retired from driving a truck. As little as I drive I don't think I would even hear any thing any how. But yep the CB is a thing that is pretty much a thing of the past

On my way to myrtle beach a couple months ago,got into a traffic jam.called out on radio to find out what happened.no answer.I could hear somebody talking far away, but nothing around me. Thought maybe i had bad breath!!

we use them all the time on our motorcycle when we travel in a group but we go to some channel other then 19 most of the time it's 1 or 25. just got back from Colorado and had a trucker pick up our bleed over and found our channel and helped us around Colorado Springs.still have one in my dump truck because all the pits have them in the loaders and scale house

Most states it is illegal to have vehicle to vehicle coms while taking any kind of game. Stop and step off or out and you are OK.
The little midland vhf walkie talkies are twicw as good. And they have about 150 channels.

I keep one in my truck for use just like Goose mentioned. I will just listen on 19 and usually learn what I am wanting to know by listening to the other chatter. You do hear a lot of criticism about them &%$#% four wheelers!

It seems most medians have an anti-CB-transmission device.

I keep one in the pickup and have one in the daycab. I like to listen to the skip. I heard a couple guys talking about watching the helicopter that crashed in the East River in NYC last year as it happened. From 1400 +/- miles away.

What kind of radio? 1.0 is a perfect match. One way to tell if your mike is working look at the needle while talking. It should move if its not broke.

BIL got one some 30 years ago, swore they would replace phone lines and be more portable. He hasn't changed a whole lot- still dumb as a box of bolts.

CB Radios are exempt. It's now against federal law for big trucks to talk on cell phones (unless hands free)or text.Cb radios are still allowed.

Shag carpet, lava lamps, bell bottom pants , coloured appliances and CB's are all relects of the 70's. Rejected as bad taste and left in the past.

I gotta a lot of good memories of the 70's. It wasn't all bad. Okay, maybe the hair, platform shoes and leisure suits were pretty bad, but Farrah was certainly hot and so was Wonder Woman and Olivia Newton John is still an angel AFAIC!

Oh yeah, and Karen Carpenter still has the best voice of any female singer I ever heard.
