In putting fittings together for a fuel line of water temp. gauge is it OK to use thread tape or should I stick with a thread sealant?

Fuel line or water temp?
Either way you're safe with the thread sealant as long as you use the
correct type and let it dry before use.
Tape will not hold up to higher pressures.

I use aviation pertamex on just about everything. Seams to work good for me. I just don't like thread tape. The only place I use thread tape, is on plastic threads. Stan

If the fittings are brass to brass you don't need anything on them . Don't put anything on the thread of a compression fitting it only fouls up the seal. Thread seal is for iron fitting only.

Teflon tape isn't allowed on aircraft fittings, due the possibility that a piece of tape might plug a fuel or oil line. About the only time I use tape is when I'm mating plastic and metal fittings.

That's what I was wondering. The fuel man told me to use Permatex on anything with petroleum, not pipe dope.

I never use pipe dope because it voids any warranty on the parts you are connecting. I use the tape , make sure you wrap it the right way and only on the treads, Also be careful not to over tighten it or it could split the female connection. I like it also because i can get the connection apart later. Have used silicone when i didn't have any tape on road calls to get something running. I say use what works for you.

I guess I could have been a little more specific when I said "as long as you use the correct type".
There is the regular old pipe dope, then there's dope made for gas.
Like this stuff.
The can says you can use this on about anything. Compressed air, gasses, gasoline, jet fuel, LP.
3000 psi air/gas, 6000 psi liquid. Less than $3 at Menards.
I used it on all my hydraulic lines.
A guy from the local LP company recommended it to me.
