shelled corn in bin wagons

I have to be at work Monday through Friday at regular job. Can I combine corn on the weekend and store in bin wagons til the following Saturday morning and pull it to the buyer or is a week in a bin wagon too long? If a week is too long what is the longest it would be safe? TIA

It all depends on what the moisture of the corn is. If it is below 18%, it should be alright, below 15%, and it will store for years.

All depends on the moisture of the grain and the air temp.

17% or lower at 60 degrees or less should be fine for a week.

20% and 70 degrees may have issues.

Also consider temperature, wind and humidity. If you get a lot of wind and rain from the storm and the wagons are outside, will the tarps keep out moisture?

If temps are very warm, the corn could mold or start to heat & spoil.

It all comes down to moisture, as the others say. Until the last 2 years, here in MN it was rare to get corn below 18% at harvest, and that wouldn"t keep well for 24 hours.....

Is your buyer planning to dry it, putting it up in wet storage silo or bag), or how is extra wet corn going to be dealt with?

If you can combine it at 15% or less then all is well, keep it in the wagon for all of winter.

But over 16%, I"d get nervious....

Wooden wagon will be better than a metal one, and so forth, as mentioned humidity, and mostly air temp will be big factors.

If you could get air to it in the wagons it would help.

THey make small air units for grain that you can stick in a pile (wagon maybe) of corn and it has an electric fan on one end.

Depends on moisture and the grain temp.
You will need to kinda put the days under the % moisture or click the link to see the full article.
