Old 6' Kewanee Disk -- anything I can do with it?

I think she's been sitting in the fence row a bit too long... Both tires rotten, the back left gang of discs is completely frozen... And the discs themselves look like they've been worn down a great bit from use over many, many years.

What are your guys thoughts on it? Seems like fixing her may be more hassle than she's worth... But, she seems to cut really, really well, and I'd wager it is because the thing seems to weigh and incredible amount. The old WD was grunting lugging this thing out of the fence row. Seems like with a new cylinder and a torch and some tires, I may be able to get her going again... But if the discs are too worn, that would be a major bummer, as I imagine they're hard to replace.

There is some demand for 6 foot discs with transport wheels, and which don't need remote hydraulics (I see it has a crank to put down the wheels). You would have to get a couple of used tires on it, but then put it in a consigment sale- at worst, you'll get scrap price, but someone may pay more for it as a disc.

Shoups will have the bearings and blades, and can make the
disk axles too. Small disk like that would be handy in the
garden

Go for it.Nice disc when fixed up.Yes the disc blades will cost but you will have a really nice disc when done.Good small discs are hard to come by.Good luck.

If you can fix bearings, I'd say you will have won well over
half the battle, as better used blades can in my experience be
found easier than bearings. You don't have to have tires if you
are not going on the road, and even then with patience I'd
think you could find used tires cheaply that would serve your
purpose just fine.

In areas with small horse property like where we're at in az, a
six footer is all we can take to most of the neighbors since
most of them are TOO cheap to put up gates wide enough to
get a bigger disc through. Thus, a wheel disk like that would
sure work up the ground better than the allis 20 we've got for
a disc that small.

If you need disks find a BTO or a dealer that does repairs and get a worn out ones for a big disk and you will have super brand new for yours.

That disc does need hyd. The front jack is for
leveling and the rear is for depth control. you can
see the cyl. mounts on the tounge and below the
slide slot for the depth control. You should be able
to work those loose with a little effort.

Thanks to all you guys, I'm thinking I'll do what I can to try and fix this old girl up... Even with the worn discs as she is, she really does cut pretty well. I just need to probably remove the nasty rotten rubber and get some new tires for her. Unsure what size they are, but surely I can find some used ones on the cheap.

Yeah, there used to be a cylinder on this one, but it got swapped over to a 2 bottom pull type plow.

I've got one like that, but I think it's a ten footer. Mine has 15" tires on it.

That disk I think from the spoke wheels would have had a 6:00X16" tire, disk wheel probably a 15" tire. And yes could have been used with a culinder but is not nessary as that depth crank will easily raise the disk. That and being short coupled is why the Amish like them behind a forcart with horses. Just now trying to work a deal on some that are in worse shape than yours for rebuilding. Agri-Supply has the 18" blade that should be on that disk for $9.83 as of last evening.
