Hyd oil - mixing types a problem?

Bought a used tractor, needs hydraulic oil. Seller didn't know what was in the system. Could there be a withch's brew of oils in there, some adding 30W motor oil, some adding universal hyd fluid? Any harm in doing so?

I wouldn't worry too much about mixing today's hyd oils. It happens all the time. When I hook onto the rented anhydrous applicator , whatever oil is in that system from the last guy's tractor will be mixed with the CIH hy tran that is in my tractors. It has not been a problem yet.

Depends on what your user tractor is and does it share hydraulics and transmission lube?
Does the tractor have wet brakes and/or wet clutches? Is so the oil must be wet clutch compatable.

System oil sensitivity happens when you are dealing with piston pump hydraulics. Servo valves won't tolerate additives that are larger than say 5 microns. Gear and vane pumps are very forgiving mix what you will..
