Not much going on here tonight, thought I would hear of some of your first transportation. I started out with a 48 Cushman scooter, then a 34 Chevy, a 46 ford coupe, 48 Chrysler New Yorker 51 Studebaker 48 desoto, 55 Chevy. Then things started getting newer. Stan

My first truck was a 1973 GMC costume delux 1500 4x4, it was a great truck I loved that thing, the 350 would start on half a turn! Next was my 84 k 20, than my 89 3500 dump rack, a 2000 f250 and a 1999 Dakota! I have bought them all used, and they have all served me well.

65 chevy impala 2dr red w black vinyl top. Was wrecked hard in the rt quarter, and the 327 burned more oil than gas. Used to run blue diamond re recycled oil at 26 cents a quart.

I bought my first truck when I was 15 was a 77 chevy short bed 4x4 had a 355 chevy in it and a 4speed... Had my licenses 2 weeks and with some help from friends blew it up in a swamp.. Was a fun project though...

First CAR was '65 Dodge Coronet, 3 others followed. First truck was '78 F-250 plow truck, brand new. Seven brand new 4x4's after that....

My first car was a $50 1970 dodge car. I was 15 I believe at the time. My brother blew up the motor for me on a date with some gal. Next I bought a '66 Chevy pickup. Ah, back in the days when vehicles were plentiful in the $100 range on up.
Kow Farmer (Kurt)

My first set of wheels was a 55cc Suzuki dirt bike. Then I bought a 62 Chevy Impala 2dr hardtop with a 283 3 sd on the tree. Then a 350 Honda CB with real loud pipes. Then a 63 Chevy Impala SS with a 327 4sd. That was all in a couple years. Gerald

Bought my first car from a "junk" yard for $75. A 1948 Ford club coupe. Drat. I wish I had that car today.

Finished high school in'57, got a 3rd shift job in a textile mill, drove Dad's old 48 Mayflower for a while. One day a boy I had gone to school with drove up in a neat little '48 Ford Super Deluxe Coupe. "Heard you might be lookin' for a ride", "Yep, how much?" "$250.00." "You got it!" Drove it for about seven months and traded it for a '54 Ford Customline 6cyl. Kept that car for about six years. In the meantime I bought a '57 Renault Dauphine from a guy I worked with. Now that was an experience all to itself! I spent more time working on the darned thing than I did driving it! Finally got tired of messing with it and traded it for My first new car, a '62 Ford Falcon.

First wheels was a b+s powered go-cart I got when I was 9. My first car was a 67 firebird I got with my license at 15. Had Keystone wheels, overhead cam straight 6 and 2 sp automatic. Looked nice and would go FAST, but was slow off the line. I remember when my dad and I looked at it at the dealers. I was sure I was in love, but knew I would never get it because all the other brothers and sister's got a ford Fairlane or Galaxy 500. LOL When dad came to tell me I could have it he brought along a roll of toilet paper in case I needed it.

63 Chevy Impala SS 2 door hardtop. 283,automatic on the console, busket seats. Then a 67 Chevy II Nova.

First was a '69 Honda Trail 90.When I turned 16,Dad bought me a'62 Pontiac Catalina 4door for 200.I HATED it!(The rest of this car story is for a different time). At 17 I bought a brand new '73 honda CL175.Loved IT!!Put 30,000 miles on it in 3 years(wish I still had it)."My" very first vehicle that I pd(at 19) for was a '61 ford F100 unibody with a bad engine.Dad yelled at me for buying such a wreck. He later helped me repair it.I drove it for 2-3 years. Then bought a '67 Ford F100,drove it till I was 35.It had 300,000+ miles and was completely worn out.

Hawthorn bicycle with a Maytag washing machine engine on a wooden platform on the rear frame driving a lawn mower wheel (which lasted about 1/2 mile to be replaced by a pressed steel wheel with a hard rubber tire) not fast, about 3mph. Very smokey.
Then a 1946 Chevrolet deluxe. Jim

10 speed bike
Suzuki TM125
69 Chevelle
72 Merc Montego
67 Satellite 383 4 speed
a lot more but the order gets a little fuzzy
I really miss some of those vehicles

First car: My brother & I sold our bicycles and bought a car. We were about 15 at the time. We bought a 1930 Chevrolet. Price $30.00. It would run (though not all that well) if we push started it with Dads truck. First new car. 1964 Chevy NovaII.

First ride was Servi-Cycle Simplex (bicycle on steroids, with snuff-can motor, belt drive), then a Harley 125 Hummer---the most under-powered thing Harley ever built. But, since I lived way out in the sticks it was my only link to the bright lights of town. Rode that thing everywhere, in all kinds of weather. First car was 50 Ford that I tricked out pretty nicely; second car was a 57 Ford two-door hardtop with T-bird engine. First new car (and favorite car) was a 67 Cutlass with four-speed Hurst shifter.

Started off with a Whizzer motorbike in 1957. Worked my way up through a Jawa 125 motorcycle to a 1952 Norton ES2. Then a 1953 Chevy, 1958 Buick(ugliest car I ever saw), 1966 Chevelle 327, 325H.P. Lots of unrememorable vehicles after that. Best one I ever had was my '91 Ford F150, old 300 six was bulletproof.

Thats me on a sears scooter, I was around 12 or 13 ,bought it for 85 dollars, took a long time to save up for it, It was a great machine,3 speeds, pull in the clutch and twist the handle bar to shift it on the left side of the handlebar, the other handlebar was the throttle, Had to mix the gas with 2 cycle oil. I used to stay with the neighbors for a week during the summer,The state police pulled me over for riding on the main road and I told them where I was staying,He said go there now, then he talked to the neighbor, told me to drive only on the back dirt roads and stay off the main blacktop road. The farmer I stayed with has since passed away,so has my dad and mom,He used to farm our farm for my dad,Now his grandson farms the land, his grandma is still alive,She is the lady who taught me how to plant potatoes and turnips, and always tells me to come eat at her house before I head back to nj,She is like a second mom to me.Their farm is the farm in the valley below our old shed,I have posted many pictures of it , It was and still is great to go there ,everytime I go there I get a great feeling, that is probably why I post so many pictures of the area,Sorry for being so long winded, the picture of the scooter got me started.
The farmers grandson still uses his grandfathers Olivers,I have posted many pictures of them too.

Mine was an olive drab 1965 Chevrolet pickup with a 292 six and three on the tree. Saved up my $ and put an AM radio in. With a light back end and stump pulling gear ratio I could leave a mark 30 ft long in front of the local drive-in.
Couldn't keep it really spiffy because I had to use it on the farm hauling fertilizer, tomatoes and sheets of cured tobacco. Those were the days!

I had a go kart and went through a dozen 3 1/2 hp briggs and then a '76 monte carlo. Lost controll on loose gravel and wrapped that monte around a telephone pole at about 70 mph trying to get home on time. Cut my head open, climbed out and walked into a live power wire. God was with me that night!

Started out building a 57 chevy with a 283 3speed on the floor back in 1965. Now drive a 1972 chevy C10 stepside pickup with 350 engine with 4 speed.

(quoted from post at 21:44:23 01/06/13) I still have my first transportation. Of course, I gotta buy new shoes every now and then.
 Dad always called it"Shank's Mare".
I started with a 1950 chevy sedan. My friend and I would take the wrenchs to it and his 1941 chey coupe without a clue. when we hit a snag we asked around how go about it. "You aint neva heared purddy"unless you heared a stovebolt with split exhust.

My first car was 1937 Plymouth Coupe what piece of crap.
Next I had a 1946 Pontiac fastback Coupe. Great car looked great like new got 8 MPG. boy was I happy.
Then I wrecked it and then got a1950 Ford F1 great little truck. Then my next ride was a 1946 landing ship dock # 22

'66 Mustang that needed engine work. Turned out, the engine was fine, just wired with the wrong firing order. I tried to fix it, then took it to the local mechanic who tried for two weeks to fix it (and was so ashamed that he didn't charge me), then the guy from the farm next door was over one day and said "I bet it's just the wrong firing order" and he knew the correct order off the top of his head. We rearranged the wires and it purred like a kitten. Took him a minute and a half to fix it.

I got a good deal on it 'cause the first owner couldn't get it to work, and it sat in his yard for over a year.

Bye for now,

Troy

First bike was an old Monarch 20". Then a Schwinn Stingray. Think it's still in my parents' garage. First car was a '67 Mustang. Bought it a couple months before I turned 16. Still have it. 2-barrel 289/C4 auto/2.79 rear end. Rebuilt the engine when I was a senior in h.s. First truck was my Grandpa's '76 F150 that I got with the farm. 2-barrel 360 FE, 4-speed, 2-wheel drive. Used it until it was unsafe from the rust. Kept the 360 and the 9" rear.

1967 Thunderbird (2 door), 1959 Triumph Tiger 110 (motorcycle, 650cc), 1969 Pontiac Catalina, 1972 CB750, 1973 Olds Cutlas Supreme, then several pick up trucks.

A 1970 chev station wagon,67chevelle wagon wish I had that one yet. A 60s olds f85, 79 f150 trailboss short box step side 4x4, 86 f250 diesel, 89 chev 1500, 92 gmc 1500 4x4 which I still have. Jim

'88 Chevy 1 ton. Regular cab 4x4 long bed. Never ran right. Put maybe 20 miles on the road with it. Then drove 91 Escort and then a 90something Olds 88. Got an 00 S10 in 05. Beat the heck out of it and it now has 299k miles and I can't stand the thought of selling it.

My first car that wasn't my parents was a '74 Chevy Vega.
Then since I bought that last car without my Fathers approval, he tradeded it for a 1985 AMC Spirit. I put some money in the car, a woodchuck tore out some o the wiring, but I sold it and bought my dream car. It is still in my shed. It's a 1980 Mercury Capri. Black Magic. It was cool in the day. I kept it for that reason, I am not cool anymore!

1971 F250, 360, 3 on the tree. That thing was rust from the glass down! Drove it to Daytona for Speedweeks in '78. I believe the speed record I set on the trip from FL to N IL still stands. I had to get back in time to pick up my fiance from school. The truck is long gone. Still have my sweetie.

The first vehicle I bought was a 1953 Chevy 6400 truck.
It had a crack in the water jacket of the block so I got it cheap.
Waterglass fixed it right up and it was good to go.
I wasn't born yet when that truck was built.
Last I knew it was still on the road.
My favorite car was probably my '69 1/2 SuperBee 440/6.
Certainly not the best driving car I ever owned, but I liked the ponies!

advanced from roller skates and bicycles to a cushman step-through scooter. learned to drive on a 53 plymonth station wagon. my vehicles in order; 49 studebaker (fill the oil, check the gas), 54 ford, 58 chevy impala hardtop(348,tri power, 3 speed), 63 chevy impala hardtop, 68 chevy impala hardtop, 53 chevy pickup and then, family time and into boring sedans. currently driving 2004 f150 (wifes) 2008 gmc (mine) 52 chevy pickup. if i could have one back it would be the 53 chevy pickup.

Learned to drive by feeding cattle with dads 46 international 3/4 ton, four on the floor pickup. When 13 dad would send me over to my uncles with the pickup to help him. Five miles up the road. First car I bought was a 55 Chev Belair while in high school. Next one was a 64 Chev hardtop with the 327 engine. Should of kept them both.

Stan, My first rig was a beat up, rolled off 12 mountains 1966 chevy pu w/ a Hot water 250 6 cylinder and 3 on the tree. Ran it hard and fast.
Later,

hi cheif, pop steered my money into a worn out newspaper delivery car ,72 torino 4 dr ,gunked up 6 banger ,slippin auto tran , for $800 in 1974 ,thought we got a steal , soon learned it was ragged to the max, hated that car ,so i made a deal and traded it on a 69 marquis convertible ,, still have the merc

My first car was a 1939 Chevy 4 door that my 82 year old cousin gave me when I was a junior in high school. It had 17,500 miles on it, original tires and you had roll the window down to shut the door. The front fenders were a little dented but it was perfect every else.

'58 Chevy impala with the whole back end cut off. Basically, from the back window it went down to the tires, and the backend was open behind the seat and had about a 10 gallon plastic gas tank coatwired right behind the back seat, and a wood rear bumper with lights fastened to it. It ran real good, but what a piece of crap that was. One day a sheriffs deputy passed me going the other way, saw me in his rear view mirror, and pulled a U-turn. It had valid plates, but he took exception to its safety and road worthiness, and that was the end of that car.

After that, a whole stable of late '60's and early '70's Chevys that included Impalas, El Caminos, Novas, and Chevelles, all factory 427 and 454 short blocks off of the assembly lines, except the Nova. It came with an aluminum head 375 HP 396 that actually carried its own weight. I once even had a '69 390 Mustang, but my brother was the FE Ford guy, not me, so I didn't have it long.

Those days and those kinds of muscle cars are long gone.

Mark

my first car was a 1966 ford galaxy 500 2dr. hrdtop 289 auto i was 15 paid 300.00 for it in 1976 money i earned hauling hay not all that bad of a car for a kid.drove it till a senior in h.s. then got a 71 olds cutlass but kept the ford till i was out of school. sold a tobacco crop(7/10) of a acre to get the olds

58 Opel worked on it 6 months drove it for 30 minutes. 62 falcon drove it for 2 years around farm no title. 66 Fairlane drove my senior year in high school. 69 Nova SS bad 350 and four speed. 71 Cougar. 74 Vega GT Wagon 283 4 speed.

My first was a 1948 Ford F1 Pickup
Then I bought a 1963 Pontiac Tempest it came with a 4 cylinder motor sure wish I still had that one
Then came a 1964 Pontiac GTO with a 389 V8 with a 3 carb setup
Then I became interested in Ford Mustangs had quite a few of them.

First was a 1917 Model T Roadster when I was 16 years old in 1968. It had been in a shed for 37 years. Flushed the engine with kerosene, cleaned the gas tank, bought tires and tubes, painted and away I went. That sucker boiled like a teapot all summer. Finally sold it to a collector and always regretted it. Then about 10 years ago, found another 17 in Kansas and did a total rebuild on the drive train. Put a pickup bed on it and drive it a lot in the summer. Plan to get the top on it this winter and spring.

the first one i used was a '68 ford pickup that belonged to my dad he was going to trade it in 71 and he wouldn't sell it to me,claimed it had too much power, which it did, [ why did he think i wanted it] offered me moms 1970 datsun car, lame, so i bought a 1969 olds cutlass just 6 years old it drove and rode like new, paid cash, and man was that thing fast lol i think dad wished he had sold me the ford truck it wasn't as fast as the olds was

'36 Chev pickup that was parked "For Sale" at a place along my bus route when I was 16. Talked the guy down from $150 to $125. It was a runner, but the old 206 (they changed to 216 in '37) would float the valves at 38 MPH- so one summer I worked half time for my dad, and the afternoons putting a 283 Chev with Powerglide into it. What a great summer- listening to rock and roll and working on my hot rod. Burned up the transmission in short order, because I didn't hook up the kick-down rod from carb to transmission, I'm told. Sold it to my cousin in a weak moment in '73, he never did anything with it, don't think there's much left of it now.

'57 Pontiac 2D HT in college, then a '59 Ford Galaxie 500 2D HT, then got married and started on the practical cars.

All these responses make me feel young. My first car was a 1978 Chevette that had 30,000 miles on it in 1979. Put 100,000 more miles on it before my parents insisted on something newer when I went back to college 650 miles from home.

My first car was a 1954 4-door sedan, 6 cyl., 3-on the tree, 4:11 rear-end, that my Dad bought for me as a High School Graduation present in 1965, he paid $200. for it. I drove it for about a year after I got out of the Air Force & then sold it to my cousin for $1.00 (legal transaction). Next was a 1957 Ford Ranchero with the 312 Interceptor engine. Traded in the Ranchero for a brand new 1967 Toyota Landcruiser 4x4 with PTO Winch - right off the showroom floor. Eight years later, traded for a 1971 Chevy 4x4 P/U with Utility bed (which I still have). Next, a 1976 Chevy Malibu Stn. Wgn.; then a 1958 Chevy 1 ton Stakebed; then a 1980 Toyota SR-5 P/U (which I still have); & finally a 1988 GMC Extended Cab 3/4 Ton 4x4 P/U with the long bed - I LOVE this truck, even with 248,000 miles on it, but I wish that I had also kept my Toyota Landcruiser (there are some places in the "back country" where a short-wheelbase vehicle is an absolute necessity).

Learned to drive on a 49 Chevy 3/4 ton 4 on floor, took drivers test in 1950 Buick Special 4 door, firse I bought was a 48 Buick Special 2 door, second was a 49 Caddy series 62 4 door, then a 60 Rambler classic, 63 Ford Farlane, then 65 Olds F-85, had that Olds when I got married 35 years ago, A lot since I got married. Sold the Buick and Caddy after owning them for 30-35 years.

1970 Mercury Monterey.Paid $250 for it in 1981.My father plugged up the rust holes for me.Served me well for a couple of years.

First vehicle was an 82 F-100 3spd with a 3.8 V6. My grandfather bought it new and gave it to me and my brother in the late 90's. It had sat up several years and had seen a lot of hard use so it was not in the best shape, but I learned how to work on vehicles and it became a solid, dependable truck. I drove it a few years, put a 302 in it when the bearings went bad, and drove it a few more. I have had quite a few since then, but the one I have now is an 80 F-100 with a 3 spd but it has a 300 six. No creature comforts but no payments and has been a very reliable daily driver for 2 years and counting. We always keep a good car for my wife to drive. The only remotely new truck I had was an 05 that I bought new. It met it's demise in a wreck, so I decided to drive old trucks that were paid for again.

First vehicle motorized trans was a Rupp minibike, then a Honda trail 70, but first car was a 65 Ford Falcon 170 six, 3 spd column when I was 16.

My first car was a "48 Ford 2dr Sedan, I paid ten dollars for it. (NO rust ,flat head V/8 ran good) My Dad was very upset when he found out and said "You"ve got no more business then the man in the Moon with a car. Had to take it back. A couple years later I bought a "59 Chevy 2 door htp from a back yard dealer. As soon as my dad saw it he said OH NO ! I know that car and the man that had traded it in used it as a work truck, Sooooo back it went. Guess my Dad decided if you can"t beat-em join-em cause a couple weeks later we went to a BIG dealer of mainly Ford products and I finally got MY FIRST CAR!!!! A 1962 Mercury Meteor (Like a Comet only fancier) 2dr sedan, Black with Red and silver interior. Had been the car this big dealer had given his grandson a couple years earlier, now he got a new one. I was in heaven, I loved that car and got rave reviews when I tooled in to school with it.
After owning it a year or two I put a 271hp Hi-per 289 motor a borg warner t-10 4 speed, It just couldn"t get any better, I was the proverbial "Happy Camper" ....... Got drafted, took out the engine and transmission (stored them away) and put the original 6 cyl back in and sold it. Really wish I had that one back also.
