'Widowmakers'?Yes the fronts are still. The rears got changed/replaced few years ago..The fronts will be replaced at the first oportunity.Either at the next flat tire,or when the tires need to be replaced.I have a set of rims waiting.

could eliminate the 350 for 1968 if its the original engine. i know the 350's had four bolt mains in the newer grain trucks and a roller timing chain.the 327 most likely did also but dont remember. the 327 would have the standard size spark plugs with a gasket. 350's had the smaller plugs with the taper seat. cant think right now of more differences, besides measuring the bore.

don't think that's enough code numbers. Believe there should be 8 numbers, no letters.

Don't know about all of them, but the 68 C50 bought new on the farm still come with the 327.
Had the double row timing chain and 2 bolt main caps. Like a lot of GM engines in that time frame the camshaft went bad is the reason I remember.

Are you sure the last number is a 3 or is it an 8? Get the stamped# off the left in front of the head. There is a flat spot with stamped #s and then I can tell you what you have. The numbers you gave says 302-327 or a 350 produced from 68-79.

If you've made up your mind on going with a 350 why are you trying to find out if the installed engine is a 327 or 350? Just wondering.

Hey Steve,

Agreeing with the other poster about the last digit being probably an "8". 3914678 shows up as a large journal 2 bolt main 302, 327,350 block. All are 4 inch bore, the only difference is the stroke. Used in Corvette, big chevy, chevelle, camaro, nova, TRUCK as a 327 in 68-69. Block was used as a 350 in cars from 68-74 and TRUCK from 69-76. Whether the TRUCK is pickup or medium duty, my books don"t say. Since yours is a 68, my money is on it being a 327.
