Worked on forklift where My youngest brother works. Pulled head and had valve job done. Put it all together yesterday purred like a kitten. Lot of happy people around their complex. Worked on Our own equip since I could hold a wrench. When I was a teenager I would Fix folks stuff and either they were mad at me for charging then or could not get rid of them for doing it for free. NCWayne don't worry I am not going to cut into your business..LOL

when i was younger and in better shape i worked for 2 weeks chipping away at the side of a mountain with a pick and shovel so some guy could expand his back deck, just to make a paycheck, a backhoe could have done what i did in 2 weeks, in about a hour, but he was too cheap to rent one, even though i made it clear i had experience on them and could easily run one if he rented it, and the rental place was close enough i could have driven the tractor to the job

Back when Jimmy Carter was president promoting "Whip Inflation Now", The GM where I worked was all over the idea of not giving raises. My pay had already eroded quite a lot and I was considering going down the street offering to shovel driveways. but things turned out and I didn't have to.

Yep. Agree 100%. On the occasions I do work for other people, part of the service I provide is in spending their money as if it were my own. In other words, I don't like wasting time or money, no matter who's paying the bill. Apparently some folks don't have the same morals and/or ethics, and just believe in soaking a customer for every penny they have with no consideration to what the customer gets in return.

Changed a head gasket on a guys 370 ford grain truck outside, at 10 above zero so he could haul some beans while the price was up. Pulled the head off a fork lift for a bad gasket, inside, but no heat. Changed out a 400 engine in a 1980 ford pu outside in the snow. And at the time, I had a regular job working the midnight shift.

Willingness is the one advantage that cannot be taken away from a person, myself, my sons and everyone else I ever knew that put his responsibility to his family above his pride, ego or laziness could always make a living.

There are those who'd complain if you hung 'em with a new rope! If you do a good job, don't waste time, and charge a fair price, let 'em whine. Some people are just a travel agent for guilt trips.

I'd much rather work on my own projects than work somewhere else for free. That said, there's always those rare instances where someone needs your help and just can't afford to pay. Those get special consideration.

Hey, not worried a bit, in fact, "Thanks for the help". Here lately I've been covered up. Right now I'v got more than a dozen projects either in the works or waiting on me to get them. I stay behind, and between the weather, and having to work out of town, I'm getting even more behind. Thankfully some of the projects aren't all that pressing so the customers don't have a problem waiting. If it weren't for good, understanding folks that want no one but me doing their work I'd be up the creek.
