Taken this morning between Greely and O'Neill, Nebraska. My kind of country.

You should see it in the spring and summer when it's green.

Man, you're staring at a lot of road there! You're right, I bet it would be pretty when it's green.
Thanks for posting.

Looky there!! TREES! Four of em'. Just kidding. Like the old cowboy song goes "I like my neighbors best when they're scattered some". Many years ago when the missus and I went on vacation throught Nebraska and then Wyoming, we pulled the car over along the road about 10pm, throwed out a blanket on the ground, and slept there the rest of the night! Never thought about the critters. I never saw so many stars in my life, from horizon to horizon. Beautiful! I'll never forget it.

That's my kind of country too - but my wife grew up in woods country, so I can only dream about it.

Love that country!!!!! One day I'll get out there. I've read a lot about the prairie and hope to see what little there is of it left. In the "Crocidile Dundee" movie, he talks about walking about the country. If I was 40 years younger, what a way to se the Heartland. I could care less about D.C or New York City.

Reminds me of the song "going down that long lonesome highway, bound for the mountains and the plains, sure ain't nothing here gonna tie me, but I got some friends I'd like to see again. One of these days I'm gonna settle down, but til I do I won't be handin' round"...

I read a long book about the transcontinental railway. IIRC it went through Greely. Or I guess you probably should say Greely grew up where the railroad went through.

Yep, my in--laws are from Wisconsin, and it's [retty nice there but I sure like the sandhills better.

Anyboby can see the beauty of the Rockies, ocean beaches & such. It takes someone with real soul to see the beauty in the Grasslands of America .
Great pictures!

Speaking of songs to caption the photos.... "Lost and alone on some forgotten highway, travelled by many , remembered by few". One of John Denver"s many soliloques.

I plan on driving from home in Virginia to Nebraska in March to fullfil a wish on my "bucket list" and witness the "great sandhill crane migration" on the Platte River, spending 4 or 5 days around Kearney and Grand Island, then on up through the Sandhills area around Vsalentine. I am an avid birder and especially admire the magnificant Sandhill Crane. And yes, I am also drawn to "lonesome" country, far from human intrusions.

When I finished my business in O'Neill, I drove 20 back to Norfolk, through Ewing and Clearwater.

My mother had relatives in and around Ewing and Orchard.

Ahhh and you got those "lovely red cedars", too !!!!
Aren't you blessed.....lol
Ralph, hiding in OK cedars ....lol
