ok ive been up a few hours but not nessessarily firing on all cylinders, yet, how come we dont see a loader mounted mower? what im thinking , as i know they make them for skid steers, but as anybody knows, skid steers and lawns dont mix, a mower like a finish mower,or even a brush hog mounted to the floor of a loader bucket say like a set of add on pallet forks do,or even pined on, th emower would hang below the bucket, powered by a hydraulic motor, and run off the tractors remote couplers, with 4 pneumatic tires on swivel mountings, the bucket would be run in the float position, such a thing could be put on say a small jd or kubota type tractor of around 30 hp, the forward mounting would be easier to watch as you wouldn't have to turn around and look behind you, you could mow up to a fence corner, under trees ect, how come we dont see this?

Now that's an idea. I remember when it was ok for people to chain a running ride on mower to the bottom of the FEL to trim tops of hedges........

I don't know about your loader but mine puts about 1500 lb on the ground in float. Drop the bucket and you still have 1000 lbs sitting on your mowers little tires.

i know, but im thinking of wheels say those 480 x 8, like on a wrecker dolly those should easily hold that weight, , debris from the mower could be kicked out the sides and even the front the loader, the tractor chassis, and the operators platform should prevent any from reaching the operator

Now don't go and give anybody this idea, gees come on . The safety Nazi would have a field day on this , then home land security would deem this a weapon of mass destruction . Then the left would want to ban all loaders as they could be used for illicit purposes .

lol, but think with the bucket rolled back as well as being lifted you would have one heck of a super hedge trimmer too

Kuhn and possibly others have a front mounted drum mower. Doesn't require a loader, but could probably be adapted to one. Have seen several brush-hog type decks mounted on skidsteer machines for pipeline and right-of-way maintenance. Usually hydraulic driven.

I don't see why you couldn't. All you'd need is a skid steer quick attach on your loader and a valve.

About 15 years ago I built one for my uncle. He bought a new in crate DeutsAllis mower that had the brackets for rear 3pt, belly mount and front 3pt mount with the 4 dolly wheels. His D17 had an all hydrolic loader with a quick tach bucket. The quick tach bale speer set up was bolted on so I unbloted it and made a bolt on bracket for the center link. I made a set of bolt on brackets for a set of lift arms off a Case (Egale Claw Hitch so no side to side movement) with a piece of chain from the arm to the loader so it could float up and down. I found a PTO mounted hydrolic pump and motor to run the mower with. I have to say it worked realy good. I made it so he could off-set it so he could mow up to the fince and under things. He had neck problems and was hard for him to look behind the tractor to see what he was doing. Just one of my creations from years ago. Bandit

The market is probably not sufficient to make it commercially viable.

That said, it would be handy for some jobs.

I should have added this, The mower was a 3 blade and 6ft wide and was Air Force surplus. Heavy built to mow along runways with. Bandit

Can you Armor the tractor (and yourself) well enough to be safe from the Flying Debris..??
Great Idea, I have casually seen that they have been used along to sides of the road, but I think they stop traffic when they are using them..

However..I did see that one fella on "Red-Green" (World's Strongest Redneck) used a lawn mower as a Hedge Trimmer..!!!
Ron..

That would be a good bad weather project when you can't get outside. Why don't you try it? That's how great inventions happen.

I posted this a few days ago somewhere here but here it is again.

When I was young we had a hedge that was maybe 12 foot tall. We needed to trim it. That was accomplished by backing the riding mower into the loader bucket with the deck and front end hanging out (rear engine rider). Then a chain was run from the front axle on each side over the seat (crossing) and then to the bucket. With that setup the whole front of that mower hovered in the air with the blade running. All we needed to do was go back and forth over the hedge and look out for flying evergreen pieces. I thought it was so cool at the time but it would scare the willies out of me as an adult.

I know that I don't have any pictures, but someone in the family does. I remember seeing them.

Moral of the story - don't use a 30 inch deck. It takes a long time.

Even better and more controllable??? LOL
