OT: If there is one to be found....

...I am thinking that somebody on here will know where. My father, who passed away in 2003, trot-lined for catfish from the Colorado River in Mills County to the Trinity River, west of Moss Hill, Tx in Liberty County to Lake Sam Rayburn in Angelina County.
He had an old cast iron wash pot that he fried his catch in, a month after he died the pot developed a hole below the grease line, I guess it didn't want to go on without him...one of my brother's has it in safe keeping.
Anyway, I am looking for one of my own but have had NO luck, I know they are going to be expensive, a good used one should be in the $300 range and IF you could find a new one, I guess it would easily double in price but would last a life time...If anybody knows where I can get one ANYWHERE in the lower 48, I would happily pay for it and the shipping. Just to honor my father's memory. Sorry for this being so long a post.
Thanks,
Logan

Could you get a picture of your Dads that you could post. Not sure what you are looking for but I do see a lot of cast iron cookware around.

Place in NC called AgriSupply has various sizes from 4 gal to 90 gal. Prices from $45 to $500. Agrisupply DOT com, 800-345-0169.

Logan,

A friend of mine here in Middle Tennessee buys iron pots, cleans them using electolysis, and sells them on e-bay.

You might search e-bay. I think that there are a lot of people selling them. Now, my friend knows the "good" ones from the "bad" ones, so you might need to be selective about what is offered on e-bay, but you might find just the right one.

Good luck with your search.

Tom in TN

Lots of cast iron stuff is available on eBay. I've purchased several Griswold skillets there and have had pretty good luck.

Agri Supply as said is a good place to look also lots of cast iron cookware on ebay.Do you have a picture? My wife has a huge collection (as in a 12'X 20' building full)of cast iron cookware.

You might try Lehmans @ Kidron, Ohio phone # 888-438-5346. They are the largest hardware store that I've ever been to. They are in the heart of the Amish country in Ohio and are also on line. Keith

I lived down there for about 15 yrs. from 1976 to 1991 or so. I know about the good cat-fishin' right in there. Done a lot there myself. You're getting some good sources for a cookin' pot here. I'll see if I can find one for me. I'll bet I saw ya'll fishing on the river down there while I was fishing. Makes me remember some of the best times of my life. Thanks!

Cabelas and academy carry the lodge cast iron pots etc.. and the local tsc here in la grange has some. The old one can be repaired probably at the price of new but it could be done.

Are you referring to the actual "wash pot" that people washed clothes in, that's about two feet in diameter? Of course they were used for cooking too, and a variety of other things.

WOW!!! I knew all I had to do was ask on here. This has got to be the best group of folks on earth!!! Not one complaint about being OT and tons of useful information...I'll have one in the next few months..."Father's Day" is coming up...
THANKS TO ALL!!!
Logan
