Cherry pickers

Go with the heavier one and then you will never look back. Go with the lighter one and you will find you need more lift then it has. Learned years ago it is always better to have more then less. That is why my 1 ton chain hoist is not hanging on my I-Beam but my 2 and 3 tons are

I concur with the others; definately get the heavier one. They have the same physical demensions, so storage space is not a factor.

What is the one ton one rated at when fully extended...300 lbs.? Not enough. That's for sure.

I've got a 2 ton folding. Folds up small for storage or getting in to tight spaces. The legs fold up,the boom drops all the way down. We had to get it in front of a pickup that was close to a wall a week ago. Rolled it up,put one leg down, rolled that one underneath then put the other one down and rolled the whole thing under the truck.

The 2 ton models are really only rated to 1000 lbs at full extension, which is where you will use it 99.9% of the time. Luckily there is some safety factor there.
I have 2 and that is all that I use to lift stuff. The larger one is a homemade one that is much larger (and sometimes unhandier) than the 2 ton purchased model. the 2 ton model gets used all the time.

As others have said, go with the heavier one.
I can't imagine there's much difference in price either.
Oh, and don't loan it out without knowing what they're using it on.
They might try to pull a well with it and bend the frame.
Don't ask me how I know.
