I've had very good luck with Lucas products, especially their transmission additive. The oil additive seems to work better than other additives making the same claims. It's more than just a thickener.

i use most of their products with good results in everything i have from weedeater chainsaw engines gas and diesel auto and standard trans and rear ends oil bath trailer hubs

This is a public forum and you get public questions and answers.

Additives are always a hot subject and I usually contribute my 2c.

I have a 4 cyl 1963 Ford 2000D, about 30 hp that has about 3600 orig. hours and no major wrenches on the engine. Having had it for about 10 years, it always had this horrible smoke out the tail pipe of which I couldn't tell if it was diesel or oil, or both. Rev it up and there was this blueish sorta of cloud behind it. It has a few leaks here and there so that could account for some of the engine oil loss.

"Anyhew", about 6 months ago I ran out of the usual diesel treatment I put in my fuel storage tanks and bought something different. In reading the label it was not only for storage but also for operating performance improvement.

I decided what the heck and gave the old girl a good slug of the stuff, about 5 times the normal amount and on the next tank I did it again.

I am totally amazed in the fact that the smoke is almost non existent. Apparently my injectors were clogged and probably the combustion chambers and rings were full of crud and all.

In short, they work for me. If you don't use them, it's your money and your machine.

I use Lucas in all of my engines. I have never heard a mechanic that hasn't said that it works and keeps wear to a minimum.

Dart has done studies on this stuff. They have 2500 trucks that run millions of miles and hours every year so they get a good test sample. Here is their advice: There is no verifiable evidence that oil additives make any difference in engine life. There is however evidence that long oil change intervals with synthetic oils like Amzoil will shorten engine life. So much so that Dart now requires all drivers that have trucks leased through them to send evidence that they change their oil every 20,000 miles regardless of which oils is used or it terminates their lease. They also will not help drivers financially to repair engines if they have used long oil change intervals and synthetic oils.

Lots of people claim good results with Lucas, but those are the people that are concerned about maintenance and would do a good job anyway and not likely have an oil related failure. So how do you verify that Lucus works if you would not have had a problem anyway.

You should go check out the US department of commerce. They have the real story onthe additives.

We have started running about 20% Lucas in the frond deck mower gear boxes. Before the use of Lucas we were seeing failures before 1000 hrs but now are getting longer performance. I think it helps in older worn engines.
