70 diesel engine/transmission oil

Is there a way that the engine can push oil into the transmission? I checked fluids today and the rear end/transmission is 2-4 gallons high and the motor is low. I have had to add oil to the motor a few different times and haven"t checked the rear end for a while. It only seems logical that this is what"s happening, so the question is how? Crankshaft seals? I have a parts manual, but haven"t been this far into the tractor to know. Any help is appreciated.

The right main seal could be leaking or the right main bearing housing gasket could be leaking. Either would cause engine oil to get in the transmission oil.
