Muffler costs too much

I need a muffler for my Ford 9700. CNH wants $402 for it. What other tractors have a oval bodied muffler, with a 3.5" center inlet? I'd like to check some prices and see if I can do a little better. Thanks, Fritz

Try any place that sells Stanley mufflers. They aren't built as heavy as the original (made by Donaldson, I think), but are more reasonably priced. I think TSC and Farm and Fleet both carry Stanley, but the size you need would likely have to be ordered.

It's had a straight pipe for the last 15 years. It isn't really much louder, 'course I'm not standing in front of it while it's pulling a six-bottom. My brother does not want to farm anymore, now I am free to get rid of this juvenile noise maker. I am going to cut the turnout off his beautiful chrome Stemco to fix the exhaust pipe, another $400 part. It'll look cool with a piece of chrome coming out of the turbo.

length of straight pipe is crucial. to short sucks. long enuff and can't tell the difference from a muffler!

Waht Kornfused said. Got generic muffler from the local muffler place for a MF 180. Had to do a little fitting to get inlet pipe to match fitting on tractor but less than $50 including a curved piece for the outlet to get exhaust outta my face.

Just make sure the straight pipe is slightly above the cab. Ironically... you won't notice any difference in the cab compared to a muffler... IF you keep it above the cab. If you're going to go through the trouble of putting a muffler on it... make one or find a better price on the oval Donaldson. I see guys around here put resonators on them that don't do any more than a straight pipe... and others that put cherry bombs on them... and they can't flow what's needed for those engines... so the engine is always staggering.
I wouldn't bother with any other muffler shop muffler either unless I knew for certain that it was made to be free standing vertical like that one is... otherwise the end is just going to come out of it shortly and you're out the money. There is a reason the Donaldson costs so much... other than the fact that the mafia is bilking you all they can... It is a good muffler.

I love my chrome straight pipe, I can see if my blinkers or on in it's reflection. What did you say.

9700 ford is turbo from factory so a straight pipe wont be too loud actually will sound good, our 9700 tw 20 tw 30 7700 all had chrome stakes and loved them.
