My $200 craigslist find

Today I went for a drive to go pick up a parts NH 892 I found in an older ad on craigslist. Guy was gonna scrap it, but he set the price at $200 for me. Lots of good useable parts left on it, and I'm thinking if I want to try fixing it or in fact just use it for parts.

140 mile round trip, but definately worth it for what we can use off it for the 892 we bought last year.

Right on, great find! As far as I am concerned using an implement for your self or for parts is always better than just scrapping it! One mans trash is another mans treasure! Bryce

wow $200!! Back in the 70's my BIL chopped a PILE of feed with one of those beasts. We used to figure a month of good weather and 10 hour days to get the silos filled.

Keep searching craigslist, you might find one in decent shape to use for parts to fix this one up...oh wait.

Sad part is I really do think I want to fix this one up. It's only missing the motor for the spout and it's got some electrical issues to sort out. He was using it just last year. Dad always likes if we can mix hay and corn together so it'd work out nice if I can just go between the 2 892's.

I'll probably keep my eyes on craigslist and see what else pops up.

The hard part will be finding another 892. The price not so much. I think the market for older pull choppers has declined greatly here. Smaller guys seem content to hire it done and if it is up to the bank then the custom hire is cheaper than the investment. That would take a lot of the fun away as I enjoyed filling silo growing up and savored each day it was going on. Nowadays a custom operator is sorely disappointed if he has to spend anytime at one place other than topping off after the silo has settled.

Theres another parts machine right now, but it's about 140 miles away and they're asking 1200. Thats what we have invested in our working unit with both heads.

The real trouble would be getting parts from a junk yard. Those units are all picked pretty clean.
