This is a question My Brother asked Me to post. We only plant corn and beans on our weekender farm. I was not able to help Him between a bad knee and taking care of our parents.Corn was no problem. Planters changed over to beans bottoms and sprockets changed.Beans he said that it was planting about 1/2 of what it should, all individual planters equal.3020 running in 5th gear 1800 RPMS. He said if He went really slow it seemed to plant the amount it should. even speeding up the sprockets did not seem to make a difference only slowing the tractor speed changed the amount of seed. Sorry this is vague any questions I will relate to him and get back to you with answers.TIA

If you still have the black seed cups and beans are less than 2700 seeds per lb.[large] the seed cups were not a very accurate .Kinze made a metering system and JD also made a much better replacement. It has been quite a few years so my memory might be rusty but I do remember something about setting the population and you had three different row spacing charts. My quess would be seed cups. Most people overplant beans including myself[9/10 per foot]when according to our extension people after a hail storm 4/5 will have equal yield as they adapt by putting on more pods.

Have him check those sprockets again and make sure the Driver and Driven sprockets aren"t reversed.

If they are when he would try different ones to speed up the seed drop he would actually be slowing down the population.

Have you used this same planter in past years?

Are you actually counting seeds in a foot of row, or just looking at the monitor count?

Have been using this planter for 6 years. Sprockets are correct Even checked them against our cousins.

Planted corn with a 7000 for years. The only thing that junk monitor system is good for is letting you know if a drop tube is plugged. Diameter of seed beans vary greatly. Count the beans in the soil for a couple of feet. You can also check calibration by putting exact pounds per acre in seed boxes and then plant exactly one acre. You can also mow some grass real short then pull the planter through that. Easier to find the beans if they don't cover

PS other than the monitor system the jd 7000 is a good piece of equipment. We used a kinze 15 inch row for beans, didn't like the planter as well but much better monitor

The best way to plant beans with a 7000 is with the Kinze units as has been mentioned. You just can't get a accurate stand with JD cups.
