Weed 'n Feed alternative

Does anyone (convienient) make just a 'weed'? I would like something I could put down more than twice a year. I've been putting down weed n feed spring and fall. It has helped with the weeds but the grass has been going berzerk. I would like to kill the weeds without having to mow twice a week.

Yes, they'll put anything in a bag, and sell it. Go to a lawn care warehouse, and ask for dry weed control, it's sprayed on a inert carrier, like sawdust, clay, or muriate of potash. Generally you spread it so the dry particle hits and sticks to the morning dew, on the weeds. John Deere Landscapes is who I use, around here, but other warehouses stock it.

Tractor Supply carries a lawn spray, I forget the name. But it will kill allot of your unwanted weeds in your grass. Seems like it runs about 29 bucks a gallon. You apply about 1-2 guarts per acer. I just hit mine with plain 2-4-D a couple times a year or when I'm spraying something else, 1 qt. per acer. The lawn spray kills a few more varieties of weeds and the 2-4-D will kill dandelions. The lawn spray has 2-4-D mix in with it. They both just kill weeds only, they don't fertilise your yard which is what makes it grow so much. In the long run the spray is allot cheaper.

What weeds are you trying to kill? If it's just dandelion... the best way to kill them is to drive the ph up to about 6.5 and keep the fertility to it... so that you propagate something other than dandelion. That's a pretty good principle for most other weeds too... I've never really understood the need to spray a lawn just to kill something that's already green.

Best ive used comes from Lowe's in blue quart container you attach to garden hose. Kills all kinds of weeds, also crabgrass made by the BAYER company.

I use cleanpasture on my yard. One bottle treats up to 20 acres. About 20 bucks a bottle

Best bet is to get a 1.5 gal pump spryer and a quart of 24D. Or Gallon if you have large yard. I buy it (Grazon +) in 31 gal barrels.
Put 5 ozs in a full sprayer and go kill weeds. DO"N do it on windy day. Don't let any drift onto vegetables or fruit trees. Keep your spray tip close to the ground around those things.

Take a 2x6, and tack an old piece of carpet around it. Hook a rope through a couple of drilled holes in the board, and hitch it to your mower. Make up some 2-4-d solution, and pretty well soak the carpet, then drag it around the lawn as you mow, adding some solution as you go to just keep it slightly moist. It'll take out most clovers and other broadleaves like dandelion and leave the grass. And it doesn't feed anything....

Try LESCO (owned by John Deere). If there is one in your area. At my local one I can get pelletized crab grass control, weed control and grub control stuff without all the Nitrogen. But with all the rain we've had don't be afraid to replenish some nutrients in your lawn.
