Another question about gas tanks.

Now assuming my gas tank is clean, can Ospho be used to coat the inside without harming the so called gasoline. In other words, if I put ospho in the tank to seal the rust will it affect or be affected by gasoline?? Thanks Ospho is a mild form of Oxalic acid that is used as a rust reformer.

It has been many years since the last chemistry course, but I don't think it would cause any problems with gasoline. The chemical reaction with rust results in two stable coumpunds. We used a lot of Ospho offshore on rust before we painted it. Didn't seem to react with the new paint or the old paint.

If I have a gas tank that is extra rusty inside I try to get as much scaley rust out then sloush Ospho all around and let it air dry for a few days then I use Red-Cote tank sealer
I have had good success doing it this way.
I have used Ospho for several years and its good stuff.

Ospho is mostly phosphoric acid. It converts iron oxide to iron phosphate. It is a good primer but it is not a finish coat. Use a tank sealer.
