square baling straw small rate

What is the rate to charge for raking and baling straw into small squares? I am thinking of charging by the bale, but not sure exactly what the going rate is.

I charge .75 per bale,$100 minimum. Some guys are at $1.00 for the small jobs.Or you could do an hrly rate, traveltime(one way) included.$65-$85/hr.

Depends on how far you need to drive and how many bale you have to make and your fixed costs.
I was asked to drive 30 miles one way to bale 300 bales. Told him $1.00 per bale. He said I was craxzy. I told him I wouldn't drive for nearly 4 hours just to get to the field and back. Then another 2 hours baling for $300. That's only $50 per your for machine time. Just my way of thinking out loud.

And then you have all the risks of roading a tractor and equipment that far too. Too many people texting while driving to not figure that in.

in early 60 late 50as a teenager i got 25 cents bale small squares wire tie. paid 12 cents to dad for gas and ware on tractor and machine. I made good money and that was my extrs for working summers and chores in winter. I had money for old car gas and money in bank. I learned to not waste my money and yet having everything i needed.probably when I became a tight wad and really felt sorry for town kids who had good allowance but no pride. In always having cash I learned to manage debt . Consider inflation the one dollare a bale is cheap--cheap. gas was 25 cents consider ten times inflation 2.50 a bale would be ok.

Think about this, last Monday we had a severe thunderstorm with high winds and it flipped over about 6 shingles on the one corner of our roof. Called the roofing company that had installed the roof 15 years ago. Minimum charge is $400.00 for a roof repair of up to 9 shingles being replaced.
The company is local and they were doing a job about 3 miles away and they came the next afternoon, were here about half an hour and I supplied the shingles from a partial bundle that I had kept from original install.

What I trying to say is farmers do not charge enough for their time and equipment use as other companies.

To rake and bale straw you pretty well need a buck a bale; mabey more if you have a lot of travel. It also depends a lot on the crop. If it's real heavy and you can pound the bales out quick... mabey you can give a discount, etc... but figure on a buck a bale.
