We seam to have a mouse problem in our house. We have three cats living rent free, you would think they would get out and hunt for a while instead of sleeping their life away, I set a trap and caught a mouse under our dish washer. The white cat managed to drag the trap, and mouse out. He had it under the kitchen table raady to eate it. The other cat found a mouse trapped in the garage, and ate half or the mouse. Cats, that is not how it's done. They will be teaching the kitted bad habits, if I don't talk some sence into them. Stan

Had the same problem around the farm here with rats. Close to two dozen cats and very few left the back door. Don't know what the wife or anybody else did with about half of them, but the use of cat food has declined substantially and the ones that are still around seem to spend a lot more time out around the barns.
Strange how things work out sometimes.

probably not a bad idea, just not that many mice in the house. Blame it on the wife, every time a cat comes in the kitchen, and a couple meow's, the wife pops a food can. Anyway I put up with it. I like my cats. Stan

Our cats would probably be scared of mice and rats. Hal
PS: She's a Rag Doll cat and was given to us about 2 months ago. Her owner went into a nursing home and couldn't take the cat.

We have a few cats in the family here too that live a little too good to keep their hunting skills sharp.
One of them we had from a kitten doesn't know she's supposed to kill the mice, so occasionally she brings one in and lets it loose in the house. Sometimes small frogs too.
We call it Fraggle's "catch and release" program.

Our Maine Coon came running out of the basement with a mouse in his mouth. He was growling and acting like he'd really done something. Closer inspection revealed that the mouse's head was in a trap.

I think the mother cat has to teach the kittens to hunt. If they are spoiled house cats then that doesn't happen. I've watched three of our cats sit and watch a mouse run across the kitchen and do nothing.

I've not seen more than 1 or 2 cats in my life that were good mousers, much less ratters. Most of what they kill appears to be baby birds, frogs and voles. Useless creatures. If I have to put up with cat pee and poop you'd think they'd at least catch the rats for me. But, SWMBO has to have her kitties.
