Hatched a diabolical plan

A couple of posts made me come up with a plan that just HAS to happen. Larry's post about the fancy old JDs and then a picture of the Ford, and one on the Oliver forum a week or so ago asking if it was OK to use John Deere green paint on an Oliver 550 got my mind working.

I was just unloading feed, looking at the 1020 Deere sitting there in the barn with all those Olivers was too tempting. I don't care if I sell it or not after having it for 32 years, but it's gonna be a project alright, just not an original type of restoration project. She's pretty rough. I think the loader is about to come off. That roached out old seat is gonna be replaced by a new black Tisco. The Deere emblem has to come off the front. I have an Oliver emblem here off of a 1600. That thing's gonna be sharp with Oliver Meadow Green and Clover White paint! I'm thinking decals for an Oliver 1255. They were a 3 cylinder like the 1020.

That thing's gonna start showing up at shows when I'm done with it. I'll fill people's heads so full of crap. When anybody tells me it looks like a Deere,I'll say ya,Deere was loosing customers left and right with those worthless 1010 and 2010 tractors. They came to Oliver begging for a decent tractor to sell,so the 1020 was an Oliver 1255 and the 2020 was a 1355. Then after the whole White debacle Deere bought the tooling and sent it to Germany to build the 30 and 40 series utilities.

ROFLMAO This is the kind of idea that can put a spring back in a guys step again. This is gonna be too much fun!

It might sound more credible if you said it was made in India.
Kinda reminds me when they painted some Oliver 1850s purple. I guess to sell plows. Boy, did that get the guys in my area talking.
As long as you are going to paint it, go for it. If you do not like the color, it would be an easy repaint.

I like it.The know it alls will likely have a heart attack or a crap hemmorage when they see it.Come to think of it, the way Im going that may be the only way I will get to own an Oliver! lol

That sounds deliciously evil. I like it. You can "fine-tune" your story as you go along, to better cover questions and objections that you get. And the beauty of it is, no one will be able to debunk it while at the show- they'll have to go home and do research, and of course, you'll be long gone.

As to the seat, get a green and white Oliver type seat- will help sell the deal more than a black one. I'm sure Korves and several others have them.

Love it. It's something I would do. When it's done I will go to the show and back you up. Lol

I don't know if that is such a good idea. There will be people who knew how worthless those tractors were but have gotten over it and then thinking that Oliver made them will sully the good Oliver name.

I like it!
If you can't have fun in life, why bother.
My suggestion in addition to your already brilliant ones would be to mount the rear tires with the treads backwards. You can tell them that this was a special order for South America.... Counteracts the reverse Coriolis effect.... lol

I never heard of that combo done but I have heard of other tractors done in non-traditional schemes. There was a 770 done years ago with JD green on the chassis and sheet metal plus yellow on the grille. The guy was not making a statement but rather just used what he had in the shop and did not care what the neighbors thought. The guy was not generally known for style or appearance, anyways. I've seen a moline 445 painted in sky blue along with a 9N. I've seen a Farmall H in all black and one with the sheet metal in Massey flint gray. D series AC in bright yellow. A few tractors that had lots of red primer-ed parts which says a lot of donor parts were put on. Probably a half dozen others I have long since forgotten about. Used to be a fellow around that was so tired of hearing about IH and IH red he was going to buy one and paint it olive drab but never did.

You're thinking 1010 and 2010. I have to admit, that 1020 and 2020 were pretty darned good little utility tractors. Good enough to actually be Olivers.

It's your machine, and you can do what you want. But I might think less of you, kinda like you're a citidiot without a clue and colorblind. I might almost consider it an insult to us JD purists....

Best one I ever saw was a JD B, owned by the wife of a prominent JD collector. He was always trying to get her interested in his tractors, and was delighted when she said she wanted one. He sent one to his restorer. And unbeknownst to hubby, she went in with some "special instructions"- thing came back with a chrome grill, chrome stack, several other feminine touches, and painted pink and lavender. He was laughing about it when I saw it at the two cylinder show, but she said he about had a stroke when he first saw it, and it took her awhile to get him calmed down.

That thing looks so lonely and abandoned in a barn full of Olivers though. Something needs to be done to make the poor thing fit in.

Besides,it'll be revenge for the Oliver Super 55 a few miles from here that's painted the other green and yellow.

If it gets to feeling like an Oliver I'll probably get another 30 years of life out of it.

The guy with the problem about IH red was the only serious situation. Everyone else in his neighborhood was diehard IH but he was AC and Ford and his chops got busted pretty hard over it. It really hurt the neighborhood because sometimes people take a joke too far. The visiting among the neighbors really had fallen off after ten years of this. Before the 1970's regardless of brand they were all on equal footing financially so there was little busting of chops.

You don't even have to do that. Not only do I dare,I dare to post pictures on here,on the Deere forum and on the Oliver forum.

Dad always took credit for the blue Fords. He painted a 9N blue back in the late 50s. Some of the powers that be must have seen it and liked the idea.

I think it already has one. It looks like a little orphaned twin calf standing in the corner with its head down, shivering.

One of my buddies just finished a Cub Cadet--he painted it AC orange and cream, put a 18 hp v-twin with dual chrome straight pipes, JD 110 fenders on it. What kind of tractor (lawn tractor) would you call it?

NO,it is just ashamed(saddened) to be placed in such a revolting place by a disgruntled OLIVER owner. Most all the Oliver owners have left and went CIH or FNH and never looked back. There must be something in JD Green that can be mixed because some of the big Oliver people buy it(by the case) to paint their Oliver tractors and equipment with.

I"m surprized you ain"t hit any nerves yet. I have a later model jd110 I can"t sell so maybe???? The hood needs replaced anyways.

Funny what can go thru a guy's mind when a little pressure is off. I think it's hilarious yet cynical enough to put a few people off tilt.

Would plan "B" be to paint it all yellow like the lemon that it is?

I've seen a couple cars that were painted like a lemon. ONe guy parked his in the street across from the dealership every day until the dealer and the manufacturer finally cut him some kind of favorable deal to get him to trade it in.

Gotta get Larry or Kruser or somebody to get a 2020 four cylinder and paint it as a 1355 then tell the same story. lol

I'm an Oliver guy and I've never seen a 1255 or a 1355 in person. A 1250 yes,and I've got a 1365. This could be way too much fun.

Hey Rrlund,it was all tongue in cheek except the paint thing.A few years ago the Oliver collecters were buying more JD green & Red then JD people were.Agco is the one that needs shot for what they have done to the parts thing.

Well, since we normally refer to equipment in the feminine gender, how about:

Alice Deerecub

Come to think of it, that sounds similar to the name of an old girl friend of mine. LOL

I like the idea, sounds like fun. GO FOR IT !

I'm rebuilding an old '37 Allis "M" farm crawler that was originally Orange, but that someone a long time ago had painted CAT Yellow.

May just have to repaint it JD Green & Yellow - (engine, track & rails Green / frame & sheet metal Yellow).

my brother and I were on a road trip for some deere parts when this idea hit us

its my uncles tractor and he didn"t care if we did it or not

Must have been a Friday afternoon when that one rolled off the line. Or the last one built?

I like the idea, I'm sure some people would even buy it!
I can come to the shows and ask tons of questions so
you can explain it to everyone within earshot! LOL

I bought an Isuzu Amigo last winter that had hit a cow about 5 years (and 4 owners) ago, the right front is all bashed in, the entire front of the hood is crinkled, and the hood is held down by a ratchet strap. Next time I come out of a store and find a really nice truck parked beside it I am going to leave a note- "should be obvious- door dings don't bother me. SORRY DUDE!!!"

I think you should I know after owning a couple pieces of agco equipment and dealing with them and ji femeco fiat I think I'll stick to john deere and agco even tho I give em a lot of sh!t on here

I actually threatened to do that with a Miller welder, but then Miller made me a deal to get me out of it.
