Fuel Gauge Rant Revisit

Yes it was operator error when I caught the barn door with the tooth on the loader bucket. But if I had a fuel guage that I didn't have to stand up to look at, I would probably have missed the door. If I could glance at the guage while I operated the backhoe, I probably would not have run out of fuel. Yes that was operator error also. Probably If I was your age I would be able to do all of those things as well as you. Yes I know some dozers have a dip stick but I don't own one. Yes it is a John Deere

Yeah Pat - they beat you up pretty bad in your previous post. They were just funnin' you - I wanted to stick up for you - that is a rinkydink fuel gauge - but I figured I'd best leave well enough alone.

We've all screwed up - I had a 20' piece of 1" pipe in my truck. Forgot about it when I backed in, looking in the side mirrors, stuck it plumb through the shop door. And the door wasn't open.

You've got a lot to be cheerful about - nice hoe, nice dog, nice drive, and a very sharp looking carport. You can fix the shed.

Don't get me wrong, I was just being the devils advocate. A dipstick isn't any better and I don't know why they'd leave a dash mounted fuel gauge off expensive equipment. I've ran out of diesel in my Cat a few a few times and it's a PIA.

h don't feel bad, i was just ribbing ye.
We all do stupid things at times, here's mine.
On one cold winters night i was in a hurry to drive my tractor in the shop, i jumped out to open the shop doors, while climbed back in the tractor 1 door started to swing shut by the wind, i put the tractor quickly in gear and drove forwards trying to outrun that door.
It would've worked if i hadn't been in a hurry and had let the loader down.
As a result i took the door header out and 3 rafters before i realized my mistake
I spend the rest of the night fixing the damage in 40 below.

You feel better now ?
BTW,..nice carport :)

Oops, I told you I have hit something three times. I just remembered I was trenching a water line many years back. I was trying to get as close as I could to the building, ripped one piece of siding off with the excavator bucket.

First thing to do is the dog out of the seat with you! Seriously, I don't know how many people I've seen trying to drive various car's, trucks, tractors, etc. with a dog in the way. Put the dog on the ground.

End of rant.

I agree about the fuel gauge.
