Some Times You just have to say NO

Our 220 kabelco excavator needed a muffler. We called the place to order one bracing for a quote of $400 to $500. Well it was $1200...NO Thanks. I have made them before and I'm not in that big of a hurry. So this is what we made. See what you think. It started off with a truck muffler that came off a truck we parted out and have about $50 in two pipes and a clamp.

It makes me sick to call a dealer for parts. Knowing what it cost me to build something vs. having the dealer do it. There's just too wide of a gap when I can buy all the materials and TOOLS to make the product for less than it costs at the dealer. Something just doesn't add up.

Good for you that is a biggggg savings.

I have always thought that the OEM mufflers were priced to high.
After all they are just some pipes and welding.
I make a lot of mine for lawn mowers etc.

Yankee? Ouch! You sure know how to hurt an old Southern Redneck Boys feelings. I like Me some Yankees when they are home or just come for a visit. It's the ones that Yall run off and they come down here to live that are obnoxious to us.

If you think about it the south has had a lot of people leave and move up north. In fact it was such a great mass moving of people they even have a term for it.
I like me some Yankees also. Could care less if they want to move down here. Just do not bring your Yankee ways with you and expect me to change.

Yup, did similar when it came time to replace a muffler on the MF 180. Got a stock muffler from local muffler shop, curved pope for outlet, and a straight pipe for inlet. Had them expand it to fit over fitting on manifold, and they even welded parts together for me. Quieter than OEM muffler, and so far has worked out great. Far cheaper too..

I think you can say now that you can make your parts. I have to do that when I get a tractor to work on that parts are hard to find. It takes time but then it looks and works the same as the old part good job looks great.

You know the saying about Yankees and hemorrhoids!! Some of them are OK, in fact Ive made many friends up "North", but some just rub me the wrong way!!

Visited our son and his family in Mooresville NC last Feb. Wife and I went to a grocery store while there, and I mentioned to her that with my farmers cap, suspenders, Carhartt's, and grizzled complexion, I felt like I looked more like a redneck than anyone else there!
There are a lot of idiots up here. If they would leave us alone out in the country, it would be an improvement.

LOL,I know what you mean. I get down in Kentucky and Tennessee wearing my bibs and boots like always, folks ask me for directions.

What was I thinking? If it's any consolation,Yankees was just what the Dutch settlers called the British settlers. Didn't have anything to do with north or south.

John, I have a diiferent slant on your comment. First it is the USA not north or south.
second, I am quite happy if no one, north or south comes up here, either to stay or visit.
However, and again, this is the great USA and I and my views are a very tiny part of it and for that we can all be thankful. LOL

How did a post on home built mufflers drift to a debate on north/ south relations?

I have liked some of the people down south, but when I was driving truck it seemed like some of the most arrogant people were from the south.

Just fooling around about ingenuity. Some of the most arrogant people I have ever met are the "Blue Bloods" downtown Charleston and have lived in Charleston County all My life. There is good and bad everywhere.
