Way OT; Should have ducked

A friend said his BIL took this photo while fishing at a local pond. As a pilot I couldn"t help wonder if the extra set of wings was upsetting the aerodynamics.

That eagle must have a lot of lift to be able to fly away with a duck. I just saw a picture like that in a local newspaper. It was taken by a person who lives on the shore of a local lake. The duck was swimming alone and the eagle took it away. It could be the duck was sick or injured. Jim

They will grab a full size sick canada goose around here when they get the chance, they seem to have to stop every 500 ft and catch their breath doing that. Not sure what those birds weigh but they don't have trouble carrying average house cats.

We had some broken wet square bales around the barn and saw an eagle grab a whole flake and fly off to its nest. The bales had been sitting in the rain the flake was near 10 lbs.

Once watched a big hawk barely make off with a roadkill groundhog, so, imagine the eagle would have little trouble with that. Wish we had some eagles around here to make off with some Canada pests--I mean geese!

I was out walking one morning just before it began to get light. Saw an eagle swoop down on the man-made lake and try to grab something but he missed. He made a circle and came back for a 2nd attempt. This time he didn't miss; grabbed a duck and flew away.

Pretty sure the eagle's talons are clamped onto the duck's head.

There was in interesting series of pics in the news recently of a Bald Eagle attacking a Great Horned Owl. That would be a pretty good fight, but the eagle won.

(quoted from post at 09:19:53 11/16/13) No disrespect, but that looks photo-shopped to me. Too close up and where are the eagle's talons?

If photo shopped they were really thinking to put the shadow of the ducks wing on the eagle.

Here's a link to photos of eagle attacking a fox. Lots of videos of eagle attacks on YouTube too.http://www.katahdinsshadow.com/amazing/foxandeagle.php

When I duck hunted in Alaska, I had to get to the downed duck pretty quick or an eagle would snatch them out of the water. They would perch in nearby trees and wait for you to shoot one. Gunfire ATTRACTED them.

The eagle will win the fight in the day light, but not under the cover of darkness.
