after 5 years, my 5425 has lost all its power . I can pick up round bales but it will not pull my hay cutter anymore. I have been told it needs an electric fuel pump to boost the fuel flow to an inadequate fuel injector. I have changed fuel filter and in-line filter..
any suggestions or has anyone heard of this problem? Thank You

I put an electric pump on my 5105. saves alot of headaches when bleeding after filter changes.
Rubber hose can go bad too. I put all new on mine.

In addition to the other posts, dissasemble the "primer pump" assembly at the filter head. I was never impressed with this arrangement and you can get debris building up in there. Deere finally realized they had an issue with the fuel system and the newer versions had an electric pump from factory. You would not believe where they put it.

I had just bought this tractor. I was going to change all the fuel lines and filters. I was having trouble bleeding it all out and saw where Deere offered a elect. fuel pump kit. I just bought one at an auto parts store and installed it. Deere's kit was more intended for cab models and on hills the tank would be lower then the injection pump.
Turned out the biggest thing that was driving me crazy was a relay for the fuel shut off was dropping out when cranking it.

Yes sir, I had a tractor tech to check it out. drained gallon from bottom drain, no water or sludge. he checked line flow, all okay. Thanks for your input.

We had a 5400 (before it burnt) that was the damndest tractor to prime and start if ran out of fuel, or after fuel changes, etc.

We put a electric fuel pump in line, and it worked great. That filter and prime setup is not worth the powder it would take to dispose of it.

Thanks... I had heard deere had the fuel problem a few years after they came out with the tractor. didn't bother to tell their customer about the problem !!! Appreciate all the input on my problem............ Thank You

Local fellow with different model JD experienced some strange symptoms intermittently. After much work, considerable computer diagnosis, the owner noticed that that fuel lines to/from the tank were installed in reverse at the factory.

Prime the fuel system using the fuel primer on top of the filter housing. If no or little pressure felt when priming. Change the primer assembly.

Do you have good fuel flow to the fuel filter?

Make sure that the strainer in the fuel tank bottom isn"t clogged.
