flasher unit

I am adding flashers to the old farmall. i went and got a 'heavy duty'' two prong flasher unit at the parts store and there are no instructions on the plastic packaging. There is one prong that says 'L' one says 'x'. Can i assume that the lights connect to the L and the X goes to the battery?

(i have learned that incorrect assumptions can get expensive)

Yep either way works, it is a series device and as long as it is in series with the load it should work fine.
 
Make sure you have the correct voltage flasher for your tractor. I don't think a 12 volt flasher will work on a 6 volt system. I don't know what your old farmall has 6 or 12 volt.
