im lucky my situation is temporary this last
month i have only the use of one arm i made
do fed cattle cut wood household etc. But
today went to put new blade on tractor ever
hook up with one hand? Bad enough when
the weather is good let alone when cold and
snowy.
I know from experance farmers are a tough
bunch with a can do attidute but i sure feel
humble now thinking how many handicap
farmers out there go about working god bless
them they are a special people and we can
learn a lot from them

It really hits home when we are personally affected. We all know or know of someone who has lost fingers or an arm who learned to adapt as best they can. Still not a good situation though. Jim

I have been playing farmer for the past 31 years with 5 and one half fingers. Old Oliver picker borrowed the others back then. I have found few things that can't be done. I can't play the piano (never could) or do any fine tuning with the left hand. But I still ride motorcycle and taunt the DOT boys who question how I ever got a med card. The hardest thing I find is working a shovel or housework. Where there is a need there is a way.

Wife's uncle lost his left arm in a corn picker
incident when he was a teenager. He was probably in
his 40's when I met him. There was nothing he didn't
do. He farmed with the best of them. RIP Uncle Paul.
You are missed. Your example was exemplary.

My wife was from farm near Ruthon MN (near Pipestone) and they had a tire shop in this little town run by a fellow with one arm! It was amazing to watch him take off or put on a tire on a rim.

No one likes to hurt, but if it is only temporary it can serve a purpose, in that it makes us appreciate feeling good.

Was a fellow by me that had a metal hook on one arm. I think right side ? He still had some hand clutch Deere's he drove.

I once worked with a drywall finisher that had his arm cut off just below the elbow. He held onto the hawk in the crook of his elbow and worked the trowel with the good hand. He was as fast as any of the two-handed guys.
