Guys,

I need some help. We're looking for an old Versatile to work rice land for Cambodian orphan rice production. Which ones had the best engines? I've heard the 555 Cumins was bad, True? or false? Which one would be the best? The reason we decided to go with Versatile is that they are made with component parts. We can fix them here. check: www.fcopi.org

I don't know why the 555 was bad but it had a poor reputation around us. as said the v8's were not much too. Can't think of any others that were thought of as not good. The 855 cummins is about as good as it gets.

The 855 engine starting with the earliest ones up to the N-14 were one of the best engines ever in trucks and tractors. That is one of the reasons Kinze used them in their repowers. The newer ISO motors have lost some of the things that made the older engines better.Computers and pollution requirements are not always a good thing.Look at the Dodge Cummings, the old 12V mechanical gets twice the mileage of the new ones.I had both.

Good runner, or not, any parts for the 470, 504, 555, and 903 V-8's are BEYOND astronomically priced vs. parts for the 855/14 liter in-line six's!
