When I try to start my tractor(JD 1020) at 3 degrees
below 0 and I have two flat tires.....dead battery!
Am I not living right? What's the deal?

Sounds like life to me, you are just getting started, prolly shoulda started earlier cause you gots a looong day ahead of you.

Just reality. Bring the battery inside the porch or a place where air can circulate to the outside a little. Put it on a nylon throw rug (with approval). Charge it slowly. The tires (if tubeless) will need to be lifted to help re-seat the beads. Green Slime can be useful to help seal the rim to rubber for reinflation. If they are tube type. they might inflate.

Hey,you're in luck! I've got a 1020 here, the tires are up and so's the battery. I'll make you a heck of a deal on it!

reventive maintenance? When was the last time you used it or checked tire pressure, tested or charged the battery?

By Golly! Sure! That's it. CaCl ate plum thru the rims. Probably had those new "Tubeless Tires". Salt air surrounding the whole situation made combustion impossible. Ate up the battery too.

I stared the 656 Saturday and it ran fine, last night at 10:00pm and -5 it would not hit a lick. This morning when the van was high centered in a snow bank 40ft from the highway, it just grunted. Today turned into a vacation day.
