Hi, my garage is 22x30 ft and 10 foot high ceiling. It is well insulated. I found a 40,000 btu propane heater on craigslist. Do you think that will be big enough? Dad use to use a 50,000 btu kerosene heater but the propane one is a window insert and is vented so would like to go that route if it will work

I have a 45k unit hung from the ceiling in a 26x40 cement block building with double pane windows, insulated garage door, and an insulated metal ceiling. It can run you out on the coldest of days

What outside temps are the lows?
I have a Kerosene turbo tube heater, 35k btus and it heats a 30 x 10 workshop just fine, 8 foot ceiling. Warm up takes time, but better than freezing yer nuts off. I have a 80k btu forced air furnace in the house and it heats 2100 sq feet just fine.

A question like that depends on your climate - it was minus 16 last nite here - and your insulation, and if you want the building to be 70 degrees or 40 degrees. And are you taking stuff in and out of the big door 10 times a day, or once a week....

You are probably in the right general ballpark if a 50 worked before.

My garage is 20' X 30' with 8' ceiling. Built in 2005, well insulated. I have an 18,000 direct vent that keeps it at 58 no problem! This morning it was -8 outside, 58 in the garage!

You want a propane, Reznor type heater hanging form the ceiling, Face it toward doors. Must have thermostat. Set the tstat for 42 degrees overnight, heat up to 55 in the am if you are going to work in there.
I have a 150k BTU in my 40x54 x 12. I CAN TAKE IT DOWN TO 40 DEGREES AND LEAVE IT THERE. if I AM WORKING OUT THERE THAT BIG UNIT WILL BRING THE WHOLE SHOP UP TO 55 IN ABOUT 30 MINUTES.
