Louisiana winter weather

Went to town today with the wife. Sure was a slow ride. She took a few pictures.
We may not have to deal with snow all winter but we do have some unpleasant weather sometimes.
Cold fronts come threw cooling the surface water temperature. Then it warms up we cross the due point and the FOG moves in.

These pictures may be a little deceiving. We are over open water and 12 miles from the closest land but it is about noon.

It was well into the afternoon before the fog lifted a little. Here we are coming home at sun set and the sun is finally trying to poke out in a very narrow line between the horizon and the low cloud/fog deck.

Nice views of Ponchartrain, John. Weather is crappy up here in north Louisiana too. Actually had snow in Natchitoches and Alexandria last week. People went nuts.

Just drove that Ponchatrain causeway Sunday afternoon leaving NO...- first trip to NO......wonderful vacation, despite tues/wed in the motel while all interstates and roads were shut down due to a "bit" of ice! Drove about 20 miles one nite to find a Mcd open....everything else shut down. Still, a fun time on our first trip to NO.

Now you see how we southerners deal with ice. Get enough to make a bridge a little slick and everyone just stays home.
If you really wanted to experience N.O. you should have come the 1st of March rather than the 1st of February. That way you could find out what laissez le bon temps rouler (let the good times roll) means to us. You have not seen crazy till you have been here during Mardi Gras.

Glad you enjoyed your stay with us.

John, Marilyn and I will be in N.O. The first week of March. That icy weather had better be gone by then. I have a land lady/personal friend who lives there. We are trying to make the trip an annual event. Marilyn's brother lives in Clarksdale MS so we'll stop there on the way. Where do you live in La? Jim

Nice pictures. The first thing that comes to mind driving along in the first picture is I hope the bridge is finished up ahead....

Since the ice and or snow is a once in 5 to 10 year event I would say you will be OK. Average temperatures in N.O. for the first week in March is 50 low 70 high. Heck we will be putting tomato transplants in the garden the first half of March.
Mardi Gras is March 4th this year.
If you are into trying new foods crawfish season is just starting and will run threw spring. You should try a few.
We do not have to really teach a person to fish. We just eat the bait. LOL!!!!

I live about a hours drive north of N.O. Zip 70454
