this lion was killed sunday am, he had been in town frequently over the last several months and was just getting too close to pets and children in the residential district, the town near me is in the lincoln national forest so the cat had plenty of cover his reason for coming down from the high country is tourists feed the deer untill a big portion of the local deer heards hang out in town for the free grub, in spite of the fact that its against the law to feed the deer, the just dont get that when the deer hang out in town the critters that eat deer hang out in town too, we still have at least 3 of these cats ranging around our place but there not frequent, at least i havent seen them for a month or so this guys dad is a friend of mine fish and game gave permission to take out the cat which was fair size as y'all can see
this is taken in a backyard in town, not out in the woods

We had one that was put down about a year ago, he was in a tree at a municipal park right by the swing sets and next to our little 9 hole golf coarse. Pretty scary when you realize your not the top of the food chain.

It is shame to have to kill a beautiful animal like that but I under stand the why of it. Just don't like it much as I get older' Don't even hunt much anymore for the same reason.

An old boss this year had a bob cat try to clime into his tree stand one morning this yr. while deer hunting black powder season. Scare him

That thing is no joke, the photo gives you scale. I agree with JD Seller, but with how they stalk their pray, you miss seeing him, that is one nasty jack in the box popping out of the bush. If he has the drop on you, there won't be much of a chance to do something about it. I have to wonder how much one of those weighs, if we had those around here, I'd NEVER take a walk around the land when leaves are on the trees and brush, way too much cover, even if armed. DEC took out a 200 lb bear across the road a few years back, they must have had a similar concern with peoples safety. The next largest animal we get on occasion is moose, one of those cats would have a field day with the deer around here right now, there's 30+ roaming around the house this winter.

his IP address says San Jose , California just as yours says Hutchinson , Minnesota . I assume they're close .

Yes, said cat was stockpiling people, drags them off, they found another person's remains hidden. Thats what I don't like about these, they pop out and you may not see it coming.

Let it kill a few of your animals and you'll change your mind.Around here a lot of the city folks were against coyote hunting until the coyotes started killing their pet cats and dogs.

That's a big cat! Saw one of those here in SE TX about 3 yrs ago, probably still around just haven't seen it.
What kind of dogs does he use to hunt with?
A number of guys here use dogs to hunt hogs. Effective but hard on the dogs.

whoa, that's be cool if you were out in the wilderness hunting them, but in your backyard is too much. Glad that fish and game has some common sense and a didn't think they're the only ones who know how to shoot.

not sure just what mix of dogs he has, ill ask him, dogs are used to hunt lions and most use them here to hunt bear, trying to stalk one of these cats will not work, and you'll lose,

there not lol im in southern nm, about 50 miles west of roswell , i been thru california a coupel times, thats too many people for me

We have a Cougar season in the Black Hills. It is on right now. I don't remember all the details.

Sounds like a real good way to get rid of those inviomentlist. Bummer, Giggle. Nature at work.
Walt
Ps I hope they get him mounted that about biggest one I've seen.

Which town are you in? I have friends living just south of Datil, NM, and his boys have been trapping bobcat and wildcat for years.

Last week or the week before a homeless man somewhere in California got grabbed and drug a distance by a big cat before he got away. I don't think he got hurt real bad.

That sure is a Big"un...only crossed paths with 2 of them, both on elk bow hunts.

One crossed a trail about 80yds. from me up in the Tetons, and another time in Colorado, while in a hide next to a downed spruce tree watching an elk wallow, I had one walking on that tree toward me....I don"t know which one of us was more scared....or who jumped the highest.

Rhodesian Ridgeback's are used in Africa for lion hunting, I wonder if he has used any of those, we had that breed of dog for years, and I can see why they are ideal for this.

Don't know if you have seen these photos but the story is that the cat made it's leap from the uphill side of the trail - looks like a young lion that hadn't learned enough to not be challenging a mule.

When they don't get hunted, they lose their fear of people, and that's never good. Even just taking some pot shots at them can discourage them. Nebraska now has an open season on them in most of the state and only a few tags up in certain areas of the panhandle.
They finally admitted that they have more than "a few rogue males" wandering around the state.
