Heated socks

In this weather it is about impossible to keep my toes warm. My chore tractor is open station. I've decided I need some heated socks and want some opinions from those who have them.

I am looking at some that are designed to go under waders. I like them because they are tall and the battery pack has a cord that would go in my pocket instead of at the top of the sock where my boot would be. I know that cord would be a pain, but these aren't everyday socks. I'm willing to put up with that when it is -15! It shouldn't be any more of a pain than wrestling long underwear or boxer shorts into jeans.

This pair has two "D" batteries. How long would they last? What about washing? They are $35 - that seems reasonable for warm feet.

What are your experiences?

i bought a pair of heated insoles you just slip in your boots like any other insole.you carry a small battery operated remote in your pocket.they have a hi/low setting ,stay charged for about four to five hours.got em at cabelas.for around a hundred twenty bucks also comes with a charger.they deinetly work.

Dont know about electric socks.But I used to wear 'Sorel' boots.The (removeable) thick felt lineing and the rubber outer did the job! NEVER had cold feet,EVEN IF THEY GOT WET.Wore them even if it was dry.Wore them COMPLETELY out.Never got around to replaceing them

I guess I need to.....

I bought some several years ago and tried them several times. Still got them in my dresser. they felt good but my feet sweat easy and once they got wet I was in worse shape then before. So they didn't work that good for me. The batteries are on the sock itself so that wouldn't be what you want anyway or I'd send them to you. I am retired and never will use them. Actually a good pair of snowmobile boots "Sorrel" type will do a better job. I had a open front loader tractor and used it everyday feeding cattle, pushing snow around etc. The worst was having the cold steel under me feet. With Sorrels they had so much felt they kept the cold away and if you switched liners your feet would stay dry and warm.

just one day last week i bought a pair of muck boots.the artic pro brand .come up just under the knee.the sticker on them say there good to -60 .tommorro when its -3 i will see just how good they are.

I looked at the heated socks but instead went with Thinsulate (400 grams), waterproof ( Chip-A-Tex) logger boots and they stay comfortable to about -10 and if it gets colder than that I have a pair of boots with a 1,000 grams of thinsulate. I am diabetic and have found these have worked the best for me.

I just checked in to heated insoles. Amazon has the best price so far. I like the wireless ones with remote. Thermacell. Definately will buy a pair.

Are your waders well insulated? In cold weather thick insulated boots, good socks like Smart Wool or similar, and insulated snow mobile/ski pants work well for me. A boot dryer in the house helps a lot too. Once my feet get damp they stay cold for the rest of the day. Put the cotton socks back in the drawer during cold weather.

Several years back I bought a pair of heated socks for the deer blind. They had a heating wire in the sole and one D size battery for each sock. The heat output was very marginal with a new battery and after about an hour the battery was gone.

Now I use Heat factory toe warmers which heat for 6 hours - they do kept my feet warm. A pack of two is a little over a dollar (batteries will cost more than that for the heated socks) and they heat when exposed to air. Look for them at Walmart, TSC, Ace hardware etc. There are several brands they all work the same.

I use the toe warmers from Wally World for snowmobiling. They work way better than the heated socks I got for hunting (useless) many years ago. In my snowmobile boots, I have to expose them to the air every couple of hours to get the 6 hrs out of them.
