Cabela's Equipment

Just got a Cabela's flyer in the mail today. They are advertising their own line of Machinery.
35,43,50 hp tractors and attachments to go with them. Wondering who is manufacturing these for Cabela's. The 43 and 50 hp tractors do have perkins engins. Anybody know any more?

Well, you can bet NOT in the US, and as to Perkins engines, they are made in some pretty funky places, as well.

What are "ya gonna do 2 or 3 or 5 years down the road when Cabela"s moves on to something else and parts are nla!

Now maybe the rich snotty ones that have been driving up the price of small equipment will by this junk and let us buy the good old American older tractors and equipment. I don't need anythink they offer other than maybe the plot seeder.

Men:

No question that they are TYM. I inspected them closely a few months back until I found the manufacturer's nameplate. Cabela's prices for the tracs are close to Kubota prices and I told the sales rep so.

The matching equipment ,however , is Woods and , IMLTHO , one can't go wrong there.

I was in Fort Worth back in January for work. Had an afternoon to kill so several of us went the Cabela's up off of I35. I bet there were 5 semi loads at least of tractors and equipment out front on display. I had no idea they were selling tractors and equipment until then. But I'm not a huge Cabela's shopper either.

Exactly !!!!

That's what happened at Rural King and their Futons ? or whatever they were. Now at least they sell Massey Fergusons.

I'm glad you will never get your way---Buddy. At the recent NY Farm Show I ran across LS TRACTOR, Made by LS TRACTOR of South Korea. A 97 hp LS for 53K (cab, 4wd, loader, etc) vs an equivalent Deere for 68K..made in India and Mexico. And the LS folks said they would deal from the 53k number... I would buy one(outweighs the Deere & NH by quite a bit) but the nearest AG dealer is over 2 hours away. With the advent of TYM, LS, Kubota, Koti, Mahindra.... Folks like Deere and New Holland are now willing to deal. Last Friday I got 9K knocked off a 57K NH tractor.... just as a starting point. A few hours ago Deere came up with a similar discount... maybe they are hearing footsteps...... long live the Korean, Indian, Japanese, etc.. competition...

In todays world If you won't by anything made out of the US , You won't buy much. That goes for clothes tools and about anything. There is no way we (as a country) can bring everthing back to America. We live in a world economy and with a out of control government. I live in Sidney, NE where the Cabela's (World Headquarters) Tractors and EQ. was introduced.

I'd like to share a little info about Cabela's new Wildlife & Land Management (W&LM) business. Full disclosure, I'm a 20-year veteran of the Ag equipment industry, and I am serving as an advisor to Cabela's. The tractors are indeed made by TYM, the tires and wheels are made in the U.S. by Titan and the implements and attachments are made by Woods Equipment in Oregon IL. Cabela's has hired experienced tractor techs for all of their W&LM locations. The tractors are now priced very competitively, and we all know that the only way to really get to the bottom line price is to get a quote. We believe that Cabela's is a good fit with compact tractor owners, as they typically live the rural lifestyle just as all Cabela's customers do. I know that folks will have questions about how well Cabela's will take care of their tractor buying customers, so I end with this comment. Cabela's was founded in 1961 by Dick, Mary and Jim Cabela in Western Nebraska. They sold trout flies through the mail. Today, they have grown their tiny company into one of the most trusted brands in the world because of something called "Legendary Customer Service." They believe that the customer is at the root of their being, that they have no business without them. Dick passed away just a couple of weeks ago, but Mary and Jim are still with us, in fact, Jim is the Chairman of the Board. Just as the vast majority of those that exchange info on this site, the Cabela's family is one that personifies the best of America. Thanks for reading.

I worked for Cabela's from 90 to 97 and I know The Cabela's . In fact Jim Cabela lives 5 mi.'s north of me. ( in the country). My Son has worked for them since 90. He is in the Trophy Properties Division and is also the Cabela's Real Estate Broker.

Small world isn't it Jimmie? Amazing culture at Cabela's. 16,000 employees that all live and breath the outdoor lifestyle. Your son is a busy man!

Funny but I'd like to see any of the compacts that are actually made in America out of all American made parts. Don't think you can show me one. On the other hand JD is at least still an American company and money spent there stay here. And no, I'm not a JD fan. I think, but I'm not sure but AGCO may be an American company too.

Sidney is an 3 hours from me, Kearney is an hour and a half, but I go to Sidney to Cabela's just because Kearney is such a disappointment.

Read an article about the Cabelas, their house is to be a museum once she dies, and she still takes care of it herself. She had a girl helping her clean but quit after a couple days- it was too much work!

It is amazing . When Jeff and I went to work for them in 1990 there were just the two stores Sidney and Kearney and the DC had just two warehouses. Jeff worked in retail in the big red store downtown and I worked at the warehouses( on the old Sioux Army Depot) and there was just two of them. During the next six years we opened a few more I worked getting them ready and during Christmas season we shipped out up to 52000 pkg."s a day. They grew by leaps and bounds. Picture is of Cabela"s mansion before it was complete.

Just wish they would quit sending the adds. Disgusting. No interest in anything they would have and if did too far away for anything.

The Kearney Store was put in as a small outlet back when Cabela"s started to expand, and their business was mailorder and they needed more customer people. They choose Kearney because Western NE back than did not have enough phone lines to accommodate all the calls, today Grand Island is a big customer service provider for them. Get a Cabela"s Visa card and you will see they have there own banking service in Lincoln . Join the Cabela"s club and you will save money.

Just because you think they are a American company doesn't mean every machine is made in America and even the ones that are made here have many parts that are made oversea. Face it! we are in a world economy. It is never going back to way you like it...

rustyacres sd! There is no tractor under 100 hp made in America. NONE and now many bigger ones have lots of parts made overseas. As for Junk -- America made does not mean its not junk and because it is made overseas does not mean it's junk. Open your eyes and see the world as it is and not what think it is or what you would like it to be.

I dunno, but it seems to me buying a tractor from someone who has always been a staunch friend to the US like South Korea, makes more sense than buying tractors from Germany, Japan, Italy or some other country who has at one time or another tried to annialate us. A lot of US soldiers gave their lives to insure South Korea's freedom and as far as I know from then until this day they have never crapped on us, which is a heck of a lot more than we can say about lot of our other so-called "allies", so I don't understand the antagonism toward South Korea.

If the money stays here how do they build their plants in China?

Just like when the government "loaned" GM over a half billion dollars (before they went bankrupt). They used to money to build a half billion dollar engine plant in Brazil. After they went bankrupt they spent over a billion US tax payer dollars building engine plants in Mexico.

Look at how many jobs are still here in the USA *because* of overseas manufacturing, though...

There are dozens of brands of tractors. Somebody's got to import them, distribute them, transport them, sell them, service them... Those are people that would otherwise be unemployed right now.

If we kept all the manufacturing here even mighty Mother Deere wouldn't have been able to keep its doors open in the face of rising labor costs, rising taxes, rising energy costs, rising materials costs, rising safety/environmental compliance costs... Equipment prices would rise until nobody could afford it, and they'd have no choice but to give up.

I don't have enough money to spend to make it worthwhile.
They have an office of some sort in North Platte, too, I think it says something about customer service out front on the sign.
