All of a sudden I can't play any videos from the internet. Some I have downloaded work fine. But if I try to watch one on youtube or link_disallowed it opens and plays for about 12 seconds and then it freezes. no pause indicator, no arrows, just a frozen screen.
Where do I start looking?

Available ram might be one issue. The video probably downloads to ram, not Hdd. and if your computer ram sticks have a connection issue they might be using only part of the ram installed. With a blown clean mother board, remove and replace the Memory modules. (static and stray voltage is bad for them) wipe the contacts on the stick with a lint free tissue.
Another cause might be a recently installed program that uses up video ram when running.
Another might be down load speed or possibly the Byte Limit on your ISP contract.
Those are where I would look. Jim

Ah you have the same problem as i am having . You need to upgrade your old stuff . My system is not a WINDOWS system and i myself can not upgrade . I have to get my brother to come down and see if he can do something since he is the one that built this computer i have . I don't get any viruses but ya can't do much with this . Ya need a degree in computers to make this thing do stuff . Ya just don't click on any upgrades and make them work , he has to make them work. I just fix simple tractors he is the one with the Phd. in computers.

Are you using Firefox? I had that problem, it had to do with a conflict with Flashplayer and Firefox. I had to turn off the hardware accelerator.

My laptop has Linix so no virus either but didnt take it's last update fully so now back at puter guru awaiting re-fix lol
